Job Description

Term Until January 2, 2023Wage: $20.43per hourPart Time Saturday & Sunday 8am – 4pm (16 hours)

  • Can work up to 44hours a week
Position Summary:As an Addiction Support Workers, you are front-line workers, working as part of a team, interacting directly with our clients in our shelter, the majority of which are homeless and under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. The primary responsibility is to ensure that clients needs are assessed and met appropriately, while clients are visiting our shelter. The following duties are performed by the Addiction Support Worker:Responsibilities:
  • Completes admissions and discharges of individuals, including those who are under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
  • Treats clients with respect and dignity, interacting with them in a caring, non-judgmental manner
  • Monitors clients safety and well-being, ensuring their withdrawal symptoms are being monitored appropriately, and getting support when needed
  • Attends to crisis situations (i.e. seizures, disagreements) focusing on defusing situations before they escalate
  • Interacts with other addiction agencies and community services including CPS & EMS
  • Following established protocols, required to ensure bodily fluids are properly cleaned up and area is disinfected.
  • Foster and maintain excellent relationships with health professionals who are involved with providing for clients’ needs
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (MSDS, OH & S, WHMIS), which includes assisting in maintaining cleanliness of the building, including regular room inspections and room cleaning support as required
  • Adhering to building safety protocols and codes
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to take the initiative to make decisions/choices without direct supervision.
Position Requirements:
  • Completion or in progress, of a diploma or degree, in a related field, from a public post secondary institution, Preference will be given those in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Nursing, addictions or related fields
  • COVID - Proof of vaccination
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check (within the last 6 months)
  • FOIP training (training link can be provided prior to orientation )
  • Lift Training (training link can be provided prior to orientation)
  • Understanding and awareness of the Protection of Persons in Care Act (document can be shared prior to orientation)
