  • As the Flow Cytometer Machine Operator, this role will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of our highly advanced machines that process our industry-leading genetic products in our Sexed Semen product line that are used on farms for healthy dairy and beef herds around the world.
  • Possesses solid foundation in basic laboratory techniques and has lab experience working in specific areas such as Flow Cytometry and semen physiology.
  • Competent in the operation of multiple semen Sorter units.
  • Ability to train or assist individuals who may be assigned to the laboratory on a regular or temporary basis.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently on projects and participate in the creation of special projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including laboratory computers for data entry.
  • Operate advanced flow cytometry sorting machines for the production of sexed semen
  • Use advanced software to accurately sort semen into male and female sperm, with an emphasis on accuracy and quality.
  • Participate in daily production of sexed semen with emphasis on sterility and semen quality.
  • Perform daily job duties including computer start up, calibration, sort setup and shutdown, cleaning, sterilization and bacterial testing.
  • Use of sterile techniques to avoid contaminating any laboratory areas, samples or instrumentation.
  • Use of various software applications.
  • Follow all safety procedures set forth by ST Genetics Canada.
  • Monitor inventory levels and proper storage of materials and supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Keep current knowledge of vendors and suppliers of materials specific to the laboratory requirements.
  • Demonstrate proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education:
  • Master s degree in Andrology is preferred.
  • Bachelors Degree in life sciences or computer technology required
Experience:
  • 5+ years Laboratory experience performing relevant techniques, coupled with knowledge of biological sciences, chemistry or physics preferred.
  • 5+ years Laboratory experience within quality control function
  • 5+ experience on semen analyses and semen process
Physical Requirements:
  • Handling and lifting of 40 lbs. bags/boxes.
  • Work environment may include areas of unpleasant cold temperatures for several minutes within a 4-degree C cold room.
  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s), arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
  • Occasionally pushing, pulling, objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.
  • Ability to move about freely.
