You’ll be part of an organization that is embracing modern technology, innovation and agile ways of working.Our Canada Technology team is a strategic partner in our business – with an ambition to be a forward-thinking, agile technology organization delivering secure, resilient and leading solutions that support Canada Life and the well-being of millions of Canadians.We are looking for a Infrastructure Specialist (Database Analyst)Given the size and scope of our organization, we have the flexibility for this position to be located in the following head office locations: Toronto, London, Winnipeg.The Database Analyst is responsible for modeling data, designing and implementing database solutions that manage data in a way that meets business service level expectations. The Database Analyst is responsible for ensuring that database implementations adhere to corporate technology standards, and for the creation and usage of best practices with respect to all aspects of database usage.What you will do

  • Builds positive relationships with clients to deliver excellent customer service
  • Works with application delivery teams to understand and define data and database requirements
  • Participates in the development of logical data models
  • Develops physical data models and database designs
  • Constructs test and production databases (adding tables, creating indices, allocating space, etc.)
  • Ensures quality in database implementations
  • Documents and educates other team members on database design and usage
  • Provides support for application development teams including mentoring on best practices for database usage, and by participating in code walkthroughs
  • The Database Analyst is expected to coach/mentor others and to focus on continuous learning and professional development
  • Available to be on-call as part of a rotation with team members
What you will bring
  • Post-secondary education in business or computer science or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in an IS environment with practical experience in application development
  • A good understanding of logical and physical data modeling techniques
  • Minimum 2 years of database design or support and administration experience in one of the following DBMS:
    • MS SQL Server
    • Oracle
    • DB2 LUW
    • DB2 ZOS
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse concepts and technique, including experience with Business Intelligence reporting (preferred Cognos v.10)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to act in a leadership capacity for project recommendations on database technology directions
  • Experience leading people an asset
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative business relationships
  • Effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change and perform effectively under pressure
