IT STARTED WITH A COMMON MISSION – TO PROTECT PEOPLEThis mission is the reason why two organizations joined forces in 2021 to create Classic Fire & Life Safety – comprising the strength of all partners, united in one, clear mission.In June 2021, Classic Fire Protection and FCFP began a journey to come together to create a new, stronger partnership with the intention of continuing to grow with and through new partners if and when the decision to do so would be beneficial to stakeholders – partners, employees and, most critically, customers.Supported by our values and leadership team, forged by our shared history, we’ve become the contractor of choice for high quality, professionally installed, inspected and serviced fire and life safety systems and equipment – solutions that play an essential role to ensure the safety of both our clients’ facilities and the people inside.SummaryReporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Controller, the Payroll Supervisor, you will oversee all aspects of payroll including, but not limited to, day-to-day operations, process and workflow standardization and management, payroll tax and accounting and external audits. The successful candidate ensures compliance with all internal policies and procedures, and is responsible for establishing best practices, implementing necessary processes and controls to mitigate financial and legal risks.The Payroll Supervisor will also oversee the implementation of a new payroll system, including the development and enhancement of the team’s processes and controls post-implementation.Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll data entry; vacation pay outs, allowances, increases, retro-active adjustments, verifying and inputting taxable benefits, setting up garnishments, other deductions< ROE’s, severance payments, remittances, T4s reconciliations
  • Management of 2-3 direct reports, including team mentoring and development
  • Oversee all government reporting and is responsible for accurate reporting of payroll liabilities such as employee federal and provincial income taxes, employment insurance, Benefits and RRSP payments
  • Audit payroll registers prior to transmission
  • Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators for Payroll team
  • Import data from time and attendance program (Acumatica) and timesheets; review data for accuracy and completeness and trouble shoot errors
  • Set up and maintain new hires and terminations in payroll and time & attendance software
  • Update electronic employee records and file payroll information in employee files; scan and electronically file historical payroll registers and prepare physical copies for archiving
  • Reconcile payroll tax accounts
  • Respond to employee and government agency inquiries with respect to payroll
  • Assist team in reviewing and developing internal policies and procedures
  • Assist in the preparation of month end journal entries for payroll, review and reconcile data for accuracy
  • Adhere to all procedures and policies, payroll regulations, legislation and standards
Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
  • 3-5 years full cycle experience with a high-volume payroll of 500+ employees
  • Experience of team management/supervision preferred
  • PCP certification or college diploma/University Degree in Accounting, Finance, Payroll or related field of study
  • Experience with Sage 300 and/or Jonas payroll systems would be beneficial
  • Able to maintain confidential information, deal with people sensitively and professionally at all times
  • Excellent attention to detail, data entry, time management and organizational skills
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive and strong teamwork approach, good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of payroll and payroll tax laws required and ability to stay current on legislation changes
