Job Description

What can I expect to do in this roleIn this position, you will assist petroleum inspectors to:

  • plan, conduct and report on inspection activities to support compliance;
  • analyze inspection results to identify violations and determine the appropriate course of action;
  • work with individual operators to communicate non-compliance and the required deadlines for remedial work;
  • liaise with a range of operators and industry clients to promote compliance through education and awareness;
  • support work planning efforts to identify, prioritize, analyze and report on compliance activities;
  • complete assessments, procedures and tracking summaries for Personal Protective Equipment and specialized equipment to ensure worker safety in the field
How do I qualifyMandatory
  • You hold a valid class G drivers licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
  • You have the ability to travel to areas not accessible by public transit to carry out inspections.
  • You have the ability to attain a Hydrogen Sulphide Gas Safety training certificate.
  • You have the ability to attain a Well Site Blowout Prevention training certificate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills:
  • You have the ability to assist with providing technical expertise and advice, explaining compliance requirements and responding to information and data requests and engaging with clients to meet compliance deadlines.
  • You have the ability to compose clear and concise written materials such as reports, briefing notes, and correspondence and information packages based on field observations.
  • You have the ability to assist with preparing and delivering effective presentations and representing the ministry in a professional manner in media interviews, public meetings and consultation processes
  • You have interpersonal and conflict resolution skills including tact and good judgement to interact effectively with industry, stakeholders and team members and the ability to relay information to clients (e.g. municipalities, operators, media) in a non-confrontational and positive manner.
Expertise:
  • You have the ability to assist with interpretation of provincial legislation, regulations, statutes, standards, policies and procedures for the purpose of conducting inspections.
  • You have ability to assist with carrying out field inspections
  • You have an awareness of drilling, plugging and production operations as it relates to the oil, gas and salt resources industries and the Ministrys role as a regulator of these operations.
Analytical skills:
  • You have the ability to assist with gathering and auditing information, identifying resource sustainability issues, assessing compliance, determining strategies/action(s) to be taken and providing technical input into compliance planning.
  • You have the ability to take initiative to assist with assessing compliance in potentially difficult or unsafe situations and to determine how to deal with uncooperative stakeholders.
  • You have planning and coordinating skills to assist with setting targets and priorities
NOTE:Successful candidates may be required to undergo an employment screening check in accordance with the Ontario Employment Screening Checks Policy.Eligibility:
  • Proof of eligibility to work in Canada;
  • Has graduated or will graduate from an approved or legally authorized college or university with a degree, diploma or postgraduate certificate within the last four years;
  • Candidates are only eligible to participate in one NRF 12-month placement and must not have participated in the NRF internship program in the past.
