Job Description

  • Responsible for Sealand’s Health & Safety Program
  • Manage and coordinate Health and Safety Program
  • Encourages and promotes a safe work culture with a positive attitude and team approach
  • Deals with all safety concerns promptly
  • Works with field crew, supervisors, management, trade contractors and clients to identify potential hazards
  • Visits project sites regularly and performs various tasks including worksite inspections, audits, toolbox talks and safety training. Follow through with appropriate levels of coaching and support for all corrective actions
  • Provides oversite on incident and injury reports, including near misses.
  • Investigation of accidents and illnesses to identify the cause and establish preventative measures to avoid further incidents.
  • Conducts inhouse safety training including health and safety onboarding
  • Identify and assess all PPE needs and ensure that equipment is used properly
  • Ongoing evaluation of safety practices and procedures to identify areas of risk exposure and implements improvements

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive hands-on experience in running a Health and Safety Program in the construction industry
  • Proven ability to enforce safety policies and procedures on construction sites with crew, project team, client, and trade contractors
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and motivational skills. Is a great coach.
  • Great communicator with strong computer and organizational skills
  • Above average observations skills and attention to detail
  • Minimum of 5 years previous experience in a full-time Construction Safety role
  • Clean Driving Record and Abstract and Criminal Record Check
  • Detailed understanding of the NS Occupational Health and Safety Act at minimum (NB, AB and PEI is an asset)
  • Ability to travel weekly to project sites
  • Candidates must be currently residing and qualified to work in Canada
