Job Description

The Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Finance Manager.Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer, the Finance Manager will manage the LKDFN’s financial operations as the organization’s controller.Management FunctionsThis is a management role, and requires the candidate to administer the finance department, as well as be involved in a broader scope of operations as they relate to finance. The candidate will instill passion in assigned staff for LKDFN’s mission, vision, and values. Among other duties, the candidate will have significant influence on:

  • Scheduling
  • Training of finance staff
  • Targeted training of project coordinators
  • Performance management and discipline
Core Functions
  • Budget creation, monitoring and control
  • Communication with key stakeholders, including the Chief and Council, as directed by the SAO
  • Development and monitoring of the LKDFN’s Capital Plan
  • Project financial reporting
  • Financial Statement preparation
  • Review of accounts and journal entries, identifying problems and resolving them
  • Processing remittances—WSCC, GST, Payroll Tax, Source Deductions, employee benefits
  • Processing other mandatory filings—T4s, ROEs
  • Audit prep and point of contact with the auditor
  • Periodically assess the organization’s processes, controls and cash management policies
  • Other duties, as assigned or when deemed appropriate
Core Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Canadian GAAP
  • Strong understanding of Fund and Project Accounting
  • Knowledge of municipal operations in a territorial setting
  • Knowledge of governing legislation, especially Labor Standards and the Income Tax Act
  • Strong operating knowledge of Sage 50 and Sage 300
Education & ExperienceThese skills are typically obtained through a diploma or degree in accounting or a related field.Candidates should have 5 or more years working in an accounting environment, plus 3 years in a supervisory capacity. A CPA is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.Pay & Benefits
  • $85,000 - $120,000 based on qualifications
