Job Description

Purpose: The Shop Helper is responsible for performing maintenance, set-up, and assorted duties for the service department. This role plays a crucial part in assembling, servicing, and ensuring the proper functionality of various types of equipment.Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Assemble and service all types of equipment as assigned.
  • Perform pre-delivery inspections on equipment and merchandise offered for sale by the dealership.
  • Conduct minor mechanical repairs on equipment as assigned.
  • Assist Service Technicians in the repair of equipment.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment required in the set-up and delivery process.
  • Prepare equipment for delivery to customers or for demonstration purposes.
  • Perform maintenance, cleaning, and tidying duties for all areas of the shop, including shop vehicles.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidy appearance of the service yard area.
  • Perform grounds maintenance for dealer properties.
  • Assist with the preparation and moving of equipment in and out of the shop.
  • Operate a forklift to transport parts, equipment, and supplies for the service department.
  • Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Complete all required reports and forms in conjunction with job assignments.
  • Account for all time and materials used in performing assigned duties.
  • Participate in training programs for skill and knowledge development.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
  • Ensure all safety regulations are followed by self and others.
  • Build and maintain constructive co-worker relations and effective team dynamics.
Critical Capabilities:
  • Ability to operate vehicles, tools, and equipment used in machinery pre-delivery and set-up processes.
  • Ability to assemble machinery components and follow manufacturer’s pre-delivery instructions.
  • Ability to use department programs and basic computer functions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs. repeatedly; ability to lift between 40-50 lbs. as needed.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays if necessary.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of engines, hydraulics, power-trans, air-conditioning, and electrical systems as they apply to machines marketed by the dealership.
  • Agricultural parts and machinery knowledge is an asset.
  • Farming background/experience is an asset.
