Job Description

destinationone has partnered with the City of Maple Ridge to hire for this Engineering Technologist role. Are you passionate about municipal development and dedicated to delivering high-quality public services We’re looking for a skilled, detail-oriented Civil Works Engineering Technologist to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your technical expertise and project coordination skills in the planning, design, and execution of infrastructure projects that drive the growth and sustainability of our community.The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, with a proven track record in both on-site and off-site municipal projects. A solid understanding of building codes, combined with expertise in geotechnical applications, drainage systems, and subdivision layout, is essential.In this role, you will:

  • Conduct and oversee on-site inspections for drainage systems, retaining walls, roads, and utility installations.
  • Review and interpret geotechnical reports, incorporating findings into practical engineering solutions.
  • Ensure all work complies with local and provincial building codes, bylaws, and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with engineers, planners, surveyors, and contractors to deliver projects efficiently and on schedule.
  • Draft and interpret technical drawings, site layouts, and construction documentation.
  • Prepare and review designs, cost estimates, technical reports, and other documents related to development projects.
  • Evaluate engineering plans for subdivisions, rezoning, development, and building permit applications—including retaining wall permits and subdivision approvals—to ensure compliance with municipal standards and bylaws.
  • Conduct field inspections to monitor project progress, verify compliance, identify deficiencies, and investigate potential bylaw infractions.
  • Provide technical guidance and interpret engineering requirements for developers, contractors, internal departments, and the public.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and correspondence related to inspections, projects, applications, and bylaw enforcement.
RequirementsThe ideal candidate will have:
  • A Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility for certification with ASTTBC (Applied Science Technologistsamp; Technicians of BC) or a similar association.
  • Extensive knowledge of municipal engineering principles, construction methods, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical reports, cost estimates, design drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience with contract administration, consultant coordination, and procurement processes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
