Job Description

Connective is a dynamic non-profit organization that provides innovative programming in the social services sector. We strive to create safe, healthy, and inclusive communities for all.ROLE PURPOSEThis position will provide casework, residential and community support to residents of the Connective’s programs, using a harm reduction model, who are requiring enhanced support due to active addiction, involvement with the criminal justice system. This role provides enhanced support to residence in order to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counselling and/or rehabilitative plans.HOURS (40 Hours Per Week)Tuesday to Saturday 1615 - 0015KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provides input to the Program Manager and/or other staff regarding the development of appropriate care plans to achieve residents’ objectives
  • Ensures residents follow the terms of their residency and are aware of the rules of the facility
  • Develops interpersonal therapeutic relationships with psychiatric patients
  • Uses professional judgment to ascertain and to apply appropriate intervention techniques with residents in crisis
  • Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families
  • When assigned, participates in social, recreational, employment, educational and other programs as appropriate to assist residents’ case/care plans
  • Acts as a positive role model for residents, providing life skills training and behaviour management as appropriate
  • Works in a high stress environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Diploma, preferably in behavioural sciences, social work, community social services or criminology or equivalent with one-year related experience
  • Two years related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of de-escalation strategies for client in active addiction
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Experience in the appropriate field and demonstrate a clear ability to respond well in crisis situations
  • Knowledge and ability to integrate anti-oppression, anti-racist, trauma-informed, critical disability, LGBTQ2S-positivity, harm reduction, recovery approach in support to mental health and strengths-based principles into practice.
  • Experience with FASD, ADHD, autism spectrum, aggressive and self-harming behaviour
  • Understands the challenges of living with a hearing disability
  • An understanding of the intergenerational impacts of the residential school systems, colonization and the various Indigenous Nations, practices and ceremonies.
  • Familiarity with youth development stages and the impacts on adulthood
  • An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities
  • Demonstrated experience in an applicable residential setting
  • Demonstrated a good working knowledge of the technical details important to the functioning of group residences
  • Experience with Residents
  • An awareness of Community Living of British Columbia (the contractor) concerns, laws, and policies related to the specific residence program
  • Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
  • Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices in the fields related to the particular residence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport clients
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
COMPENSATIONAs Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $28.32 per hour. Plus benefits enrollment as per the Collective Agreement.WHAT WE OFFER
