Our technically-minded employees are a fantastic group who really love to research and develop great batteries!We are looking for a leader with solid industry experience in lithium-ion battery technology to join our Materials Development team. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge in their area of expertise of Separator research. Our labs are well stocked with instruments and equipment, i.e. FIB-SEM; CT scanner; custom mechanical properties analyzer, to name a few. The Research Scientist plays a key role in advancing lithium-ion battery research and leads the planning and execution of experiments of current and future cell designs.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Take a lead role in R&D materials using your expertise in Separator research and evaluations and providing support for Binder related work.
• Evaluate the properties of separators that lead to cell designs with improved long-term performance.
• For Binder support - evaluate binder options for physical, chemical, and electrochemical properties from slurries through to use in commercial cylindrical cells.
• Develop improvements to current and future cell designs in collaboration with the Product Development teams.
• Identify and promote new concepts and techniques that can be applied to commercially viable Li-ion cell designs.
• Leading the planning and executing of experiments.
• Develop viable solutions to specific problems to improve existing designs.
• Provide support and guidance to manufacturing in Taiwan by resolving problems as they arise.
• Scientists are required to keep abreast of new developments in battery technology and make recommendations to management.
• Opportunity for periodic travel to Taiwan for research collaborations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Physics or a relevant Engineering field with a strong understanding of current and upcoming lithium-ion battery separator materials or binder formulations.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Li-ion manufacturing environment and/or industry experience in Li-ion battery materials or Li-ion battery end users is preferred.
• A creative thinker who will contribute new and interesting techniques to advance company research
• Skilled in data presentation, communication, problem solving, critical thinking. Ability to communicate project needs, challenges, decisions, and proposed solutions
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and direct people with varying backgrounds and levels of expertise.
• Advanced knowledge and technical abilities on a variety of lab instruments and equipment.
