More information can be found here.An opportunity to make a difference to the lives of BC’s youthIn 2019, the Province of BC announced a new strategy called A Pathway To Hope, that aims to address service gaps and to integrate service delivery for mental health and substance use services. As part of this strategy, the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), is expanding specialized services for children and youth with severe mental health and/or substance use conditions that require intensive services. The Step Up Step Down Outreach team will be composed of specialized clinical staff and outreach workers who will provide mental health and substance use treatment for at-risk children and youth through in-person and virtual outreach services.The Step Up Step Down Outreach Team is a specialized team within Child and Youth Mental Health that works specifically with children and youth with severe mental health needs and/or substance use issues and safety concerns and requiring more intensive treatment and support than can be provided on an outpatient basis alone.This position provides urgent mental health care in community, using an integrated service approach, to reduce the need for hospitalization and provide aftercare to help clients return home to community from inpatient services. Step Up Step Down Mental Health Outreach workers will work closely with families and caregivers to support the implementation of treatment recommendations from the Step Up Step Down clincians and the day-to-day care and supervision of children and youth experiencing acute mental health and/or substance use challenges.A greenery-laden, mountain-ringed community next to the Fraser River.   • Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Child and Youth Care, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in child and youth mental health services.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Two years or more of recent experience providing services to youth experiencing problematic substance use and mental health challenges and their families/caregivers.
  • Recent experience providing services utilizing an outreach model.
  • Recent experience providing services utilizing a strength-based case management model and multi-disciplinary wrap around services.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
Provisos:
  • Opportunity to work with families facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant dealings with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children in crisis.
  • Exposure to regular travel in remote locations.
  • May be required to use own vehicle on an expense account basis.
