Job Description

Our core values are to Care Passionately about MSH, Respect & Community, Excellence & Quality and Trust & Accountability.The incumbent of this newly created role will be an integral part of supporting the Foundation through revenue management, expense processing, and overseeing components of the Foundation’s financial portfolio. This position is primarily responsible for supporting all aspects of the Foundation’s financials to increase the efficiency and effectiveness while ensuring the Foundation is meeting CRA requirements and other business standards.KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:Financial Support

  • Process the accounts payable and associated procedures in accordance with the Foundation’s guidelines. Enter expenses into general ledger; prepare reports for reconciliation and direct deposit payments.
  • Assists in the draft year-end financial statements and related year end reports for audit. Provide requested backups and reports ensuring they are fulfilled by the due date. Liaises with and assists the Organization’s external auditors’ inquiries.
  • Reconciles and prepares yearly T3010 Charitable Information return.
  • Assist with other accounting and financial functions and procedures, as needed.
  • Assist with the monthly bank reconciliation process by recording all revenue and adjustments in both Raiser’s Edge and QuickBooks to ensure integrity of the internal control system.
  • Assist with month end reports and schedules including prepaids, fixed assets, accrued liabilities and investments.
Gift Administration & Donor Services
  • Coordinate the process of all revenue in accordance with CRA guidelines and the Foundation’s standards including gifts of securities, gift-in-kinds, pledge commitments, monthly donor transmission and online gifts.
  • Assist with the lottery revenue process including financial reconciliation, monitoring ticket purchase processes, and preparing the lottery report in accordance with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
  • Provide support to the Donor Engagement Associate on our team through continued training, and organizing workflow.
  • Provide support for special projects and activities which may include training on system components and practices, integration projects with other database systems.
  • Provide support at signature events and perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge Required
  • Post-secondary education, with experience in the not-for-profit sector, an asset.
  • A recognized accounting designation (CPA) is preferred, (or actively pursuing).
  • Strong bookkeeping, auditing and accounting skills related to accounts payable and account receivable.
  • Understanding of financial statements, budgets and variances.
  • Strong technical skills including experience with online resources, word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and QuickBooks preferred.
  • Experience in assessing training needs and developing plans for staff training.
  • Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency, yet thorough attention to details and follow-through.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Resourceful and independent, but comfortable working within the framework on an integrated development program and team-oriented environment; able to adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use own initiative and sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and discretion in the performance of job functions – confidentiality of information in the performance of job functions is required at all times.
WORK SCHEDULE & REQUIREMENTS:Available to work Monday-Friday, 7.5 hour each day. Schedules may change based on operational needs. This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping and handling.
