Applicants will be continued on a rolling basis as positions are available.Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Fitness Coordinator, the Fitness Specialist will be responsible for providing a safe and pleasant environment for all members using the Fitness facilities. This position is also responsible for conducting the City of Markham New Member On-Boarding program to support members to achieve their personal goals.Note: The successful candidate will be required for performing duties as a Fitness Specialist Level 1 and 2. They will also be required to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings, evenings and weekends to align with needs of the clients.Fitness Specialist Level IJob Duties

  • Supervise activity within the fitness facilities, watch for unsafe activity in order to prevent injuries or accidents and instruct members on proper use of all equipment.
  • Welcome residents and proactively offer information on the facilities, programs, provide tours of the facility, and offer best membership solutions to meet the needs of residents.
  • Schedule members for a new member on-boarding program
  • Schedules new member on-boarding follow up or program review
  • Conduct new member on-boarding program
  • Demonstrate proper fitness techniques to members and modifies all member exercise techniques as needed.
  • Be willing to teach a variety of group fitness classes and/or small group classes an asset.
  • Ensure the site, equipment and supplies are appropriate to the activity and environment and report the required maintenance of the equipment in a timely manner to the Fitness Coordinator.
  • The ability to work effectively with a wide range of fitness levels in a diverse community.
  • Approachable and open to input from participants.
Requirements
  • 2 years community College Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion an asset
  • Possess a valid Personal Training Certification (CanFit Pro, ACSM, CPTN, NSCA or equivalent).
  • CSEP(Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certification) would be an asset
  • Group Fitness Certification and ability to teach a variety of classes an asset
  • At least 2 years of experience in exercise prescriptions and appraisals an asset
  • Proven record of experience in fitness center sales and service an asset
  • Standard First Aid with CPR C.
  • Currently active in the field of fitness.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, leadership skills, customer service skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • The ability to work effectively with a wide range of fitness levels in a diversity community.
  • Knowledge of aspects of fitness, wellness and basic training principles, fitness theory: skeletal, muscular, neurological, cardiovascular and pulmonary systems and components of a workout from warm-up, cardiovascular and resistance training to cool-down.
Fitness Specialist Level IIJob Duties
  • Includes all aspects of Fitness Specialist 1
  • Conduct CSEP approved assessment protocol where appropriate
  • Develops a member specific exercise plan within the member’s level of ability and progresses to more advanced training techniques with members once the proper competency has been achieved.
  • Ensures that one-on-one educational fitness program promotes a health and fitness through realistic goal setting and education.
  • Modifies all client exercise techniques as needed.
