Job Description

What we are looking for:As part of the Health Information Management team, the Health Information clerk is responsible for maintaining an accurate electronic patient record so that patient information can be readily accessible to care providers. The successful candidate will to be adaptable and flexible working in both a paper based department and computerized office environment and actively participate in data quality and continuous improvement initiatives.Responsibilities include:
  • Daily rounds to collect patient charts from inpatient units and clinics
  • Conduct quantitative & qualitative analysis including data quality audits on discharged charts
  • Accurately scan and index patient records within the department defined turn around time
  • Update chart status in Meditech to confirm receipt of all discharges from the unit daily
  • Run daily reports and assign incomplete chart notifications as appropriate
  • Respond to customer inquiries (walk-in and telephone) for health records
What you bring to Oak Valley Health:
  • A minimum of 1 year’s recent experience in a computerized medical office environment; health information management experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ontario legislation and other regulations pertaining to collection, use, access and disclosure of personal health information (i.e. Personal Health Information Protection Act, Public Hospitals, Mental Health and Coroners Acts) is highly desired
  • Previous experience with Meditech and online documentation is an asset
  • Proficient keyboarding and data entry skills with a minimum of 60 wpm; previous scanning and indexing experience a definite asset
  • Demonstrated attention to detail with high level of accuracy
  • Proven well-developed organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task, adjust priorities and meet deadlines effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a well-developed positive customer service approach
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as with independent work habits, exercising sound judgment
  • Previous health information management experience, familiarity with optical scanning / indexing processes is advantageous
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with Organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
Work Schedule:The successful candidate is required to be available to work days/evenings Monday to Friday (shifts- 800-1600) and weekends.
