Job Description

Job Summary:Using a consultative approach and broad generalist knowledge, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible and accountable for working directly with specific client groups to provide an experienced level of independent counsel, expert advice, high level of human resources consulting, coaching and leadership.The Human Resources Business Partner is the main point of contact to support on labour and employee relations matters and contribute to the continuous improvement of organizational performance that meets the needs of Kinark Child and Family Services.This role is based out of Markham, Ontario but will require frequent travel to Kinark’s program locations (Durham, Northumberland and Peterborough).Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Management or related discipline
  • 3-5 years working experience with a proven expertise of employee and labour relations
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a unionized environment
  • CHRP designation or in process
  • Experience as an HR Generalist with expert knowledge of HR legislation (e.g., Employment Standards, Human Rights, Health & Safety, Privacy, Compensation, Labour Relations, etc.)
  • Previous experience working in Human Resources in a not-for-profit, social service or healthcare environment would be an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to build, foster and maintain constructive relationships with clients and union partners
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team dealing with multiple priorities in a complex environment
  • Effective at building relationships and gaining credibility with assigned client group
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution skills
  • High level of composure and demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment where there is a need to be able to effectively manage multiple tasks/assignments at the same time
  • Solid understanding and use of project management and ability to balance and manage multiple interests
  • Additional designations or certifications (i.e. CEBS, CCP, PMP) would be considered assets
  • Candidates Bilingual in English and French will be given special consideration
Duties & Responsibilities include:
  • Provide interpretation and advice on applicable legislation, policies and Collective Agreements to shape decision making.
  • Provide counsel to all client levels related to Human Resources concerns and options.
  • Prepare for and assist with the grievance process up to and including arbitration.
  • Prepare for and participate in Collective Bargaining.
  • Conduct both straightforward and complex workplace investigations with respect to such issues as harassment, human rights code violations and employment complaints and recommend options for resolving issues.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Human Resource policies, procedures and programs.
  • Prepare reports, education and presentations related to key workplace relations issues to support organization continuous learning.
  • Respond to general HR inquiries from managers and employees when needed
  • Experience in return to work programs as well as WSIB and disability management
Skills and Abilities:
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of legislative guidelines
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Very strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
As this position requires travel to Kinark’s various offices, the successful candidate must have a valid Ontario driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle and be willing to obtain automobile insurance which includes driving for business purposes with a minimum liability of one million dollars. In addition to the above, the successful candidate must have a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Screening) and Pre-Employment Medical.Kinark Child and Family Services conditions of employment include but are not limited to successful Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, completed Pre-Employment Medical certificate, and proof of full vaccination by November 15, 2021. Fully vaccinated is defined as having received all required doses of a World Health Organization Approved COVID-19 Vaccine and 14 days have passed since last dose.
