Job Description

What we are looking for:We are hiring an Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) to work in our newly designated Mobile Enhancement Support Team (MEST). This team will support community long-term care and retirement settings in clinical crisis as part of the infection, prevention and control HUB. You will be based at the Markham site, but expected to work in multiple facilities during the pandemic. MEST work once completed will transition to on site acute care within the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Department. As an integral member of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Department, the Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) works in the capacity of a consultant to meet the needs of an evolving infection and prevention practice. The ICP works closely with patient care, support services and facilitates the development, implementation and evaluation of IPAC strategies. The position will support the organizational strategic priorities and initiatives at both the Uxbridge and Markham site.Main responsibilities include:
  • Conducting surveillance activities
  • Managing outbreaks
  • Consulting with internal and external stakeholders
  • Providing education to all levels of health care providers
  • Linking with external agencies and participating in research activities
  • Providing IPAC recommendations for construction and design projects
What you bring to the role:
  • Expert infection prevention and control knowledge is required to act as a resource and problem solving
  • Baccalaureate degree in a health care related field is required with at least two years experience in infection prevention and control.
  • Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) is an asset or eligible for certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Member of the Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC CANADA)
  • Possesses knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology and infectious diseases
  • Motivated and self-directed individual with the ability to function effectively both autonomously and as a team member
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills
  • Well-developed communication (oral, written and presentation) and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to set and adjust priorities
  • Knowledge and application of Adult Education principles
  • Knowledge of the CSA Z8000 Standards for Canadian Health Care Facilities
  • Demonstrates proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, understanding of various social media platforms, internet searches, e-mail comfortably, etc.)
  • Must be able to work on a rotating on-call schedule
  • Have the ability to travel to the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital site as required
  • Demonstrated good performance and attendance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:Candidates will be required to work primarily days - Monday to Friday with flexibility to meet needs of the department.
