Job Description

What we are looking for:As the Manager of Facilities and Plant Maintenance, reporting to the Director, Facilities and Corporate Services you will manage the operation and maintenance of the facility and associated equipment and systems with a $7-10 million dollar operating budget. The manager shall manage the maintenance human resources including recruiting, hiring, evaluating, and disciplining as well as overseeing and coordinating contracted service representatives. You will be responsible for staff education and practice enhancement, quality management, as well as the day-to-day safe and efficient operation of the plant and facility by utilizing computerized corrective and preventative maintenance programs. In collaboration with the Director, Supervisor , Plant Maintenance and the Plant Maintenance team, you will be responsible for setting annual goals and objectives to ensure compliance with legislative and professional standards including but not limited to building, fire, electrical and plumbing codes, municipal by-laws environmental legislation, operating engineers act, NFPA and CSA. Responsibilities also include developing policies and procedures, standard operating procedures and establishing priorities for Maintenance Services across the hospital. In addition, you shall assist in the planning and implementation of contracted repairs.CRITICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Leads department and directs all activities related to facility maintenance, equipment repair and new installations. Departments include facility maintenance and grounds services
  • Managing the staff performance and activities for maintaining all plant machinery to ensure safe, continual and efficient operations.
  • Ensuring that periodic and preventive maintenance are appropriately scheduled and accomplished and that emergency troubleshooting and maintenance support are readily available as needed.
  • Managing maintenance goal setting, activity scheduling and work allocation to ensure measurable goals, proper workload distribution, goal satisfaction and effective staff management.
  • Monitoring and continually improving maintenance processes and maintenance personnel performance to achieve enhanced levels of efficiency
  • Maintains a trained staff with the ability to resolve facility issues across a continuous (24/7) operation.
  • Develops and maintains facility policies and procedures for all facilities operations and health & safety policies and ensures procedures are well known and fully applied by all staff
  • Coordinates and conducts periodic building wide safety inspections for compliance with all safety, regulatory and operating policy requirements
  • Owns, reports & handles all incidents occurring on site
  • Manages and controls outside suppliers service contracts
  • Ensures that contractors and external facilities services, which are needed to support facilities operations; are procured, directed and supervised efficiently.
  • Keeps abreast of technical developments, laws and regulations related to facilities management
  • Assists the Director with the development of the annual facilities budget
  • Analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data; monitors and authorizes expenditures in accordance with established guidelines and approved budget.
  • Keeps up to date with the latest developments in facility operations in particular green technology
  • Responsible for procurement of goods and services related to facilities maintenance
What you bring to Oak Valley Health:
  • Educational background in mechanical or engineering technology required;
  • Minimum 7-10 years progressive experience in a similar role;
  • Minimum of 5 years in a management role required;
  • Proven experience in directing and developing staff; leadership skills and excellent coaching, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience managing budgets and financial reporting;
  • Solid trouble-shooting and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and schedule work effectively in a fast paced environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer experience using Microsoft programs i.e. Excel, Word.
  • Experience with B.A.S., fire protection equipment and systems is essential
  • Extensive experience with a Preventative Maintenance Management program is crucial
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:The Successful candidate will work Monday to Friday Days. Weekend work as needed.
