Are you ready to join usWhat we need:The Manager, Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness is responsible to provide leadership in the delivery of health and safety programs that support employee health, wellness, and safety.The position oversees OHS operations including: health/infectious disease surveillance, safety services, WSIB claims management, Ministry of Labour, disability management, ergonomic services, employee health services, annual flu and immunization campaign, health education and training program, policies and procedures development, workplace violence prevention program, joint occupational health and safety, attendance management program, staff wellness, etc., to meet organizational goals and priorities in collaboration with internal and external leaders and stakeholders. You are an effective critical thinker, inspiring leader, relationship-builder and great communicator with both hospital partners and staff. You will approach issues and challenges in a creative and collaborative manner. You are highly organized, able to succeed in a fast-paced environment, and are eager to engage with new challenges every day.Responsibilities include:Directly manage 6-10 employees and manage day-to-day departmental operations to meet organizational goals and priorities for the organization’s OH&S services in collaboration with internal and external leaders and stakeholdersProvide leadership and direction to cross-functional staff and interdependent project teamsLead the selection and management of vendor relationships through all stages (e.g. identify needs, research options, develop requirements and selection criteria, determine quality measures, prepare requests for information/proposal, etc. (RFx), lead vendor selection processes, negotiate and finalize contract terms and service level agreements); monitor contractor work assignments for adherence to contract terms and service level agreements (SLAs); develop and implement action plans to address performance gaps;Provide project leadership and support through all project stages (e.g. project proposal, initiation, set scope, gather business requirements, research and select options, develop and monitor project plans and schedules, assign and monitor resources, develop quality testing, and implementation plans, develop performance and quality measures, lead implementation and monitor post-implementation performance and quality)Provide leadership, direction in the formulation of policies, programs, and procedures for the provision of business unit services, and guide their interpretationOversee occupational health assessment, standards, and requirementsOversee STD, LTD, and WSIB claims for case management to develop strategic directionDevelop return to work plans in consideration of employee limitations for complex or contentious casesInitiate, research, propose changes, implement and review post-implementation quality (e.g. attending practitioners record (APR))Researches internally and externally relevant policies, practices, and guidelinesAssists in the implementation of strategies and principles of corporate initiatives, programs and policies involving occupational health, safety, and wellness.Ensures management are informed of ongoing Occupational Health and Safety programs and issues.Collaborates in the development of departmental goals and objectives; aligns programs, projects and activities of the area to facilitate achievement of established goals.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with external agencies, such as WSIB, MOL, OHADevelop and review hospital-wide occupational health, safety and wellness indicators, and develop and implement strategies for improvementBe a workplace violence prevention program leaderOversee the Joint Occupational Health and Safety CommitteesCollaborates in budget preparation and implementation of financial and program initiatives.Participates in intra- and inter-departmental committees.Work Schedule:The successful candidate will work Monday – Friday days. Schedules may change based on operational needs.Compensation:BAND D: $47.86 - $59.81 per hourWhat you bring to MSH:5-7 years of Occupational Health and Safety experience required1-2 years of Leadership experience preferredHospital experience preferredUndergraduate degree in Healthcare or related field requiredExperience managing vaccination protocols and reportingOH&S certification and Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferredParklane experience will be an assetKnowledge of Health & Safety legislation in a unionized environment or public sector/broader public sector organizationExcellent communication, coaching and collaboration skillsEffective consultation skills to foster collaborative working relationships among management, IPAC, HRBPs, staff, organizational units, etc.Strong organizational skills to plan and co-ordinate various activities and manage competing priorities and balance multiple, disparate tasksDemonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as requiredMarkham Stouffville Hospital takes pride in serving some of Canada’s most diverse communities.
