Job Description

What we are looking for:Reporting to the Manager of MDRD – the Supervisor will:Have the knowledge and understanding of the functioning of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department in order to be a mentor and role model for the staff The Supervisor will have a demonstrated knowledge and understating of the Central Service Association (CSA) and Accreditation Canada standards as well as manufacturer’s instructions for use; occupational health and safety act, organizational policies, employment standards and the Provincial Infectious Disease Advisory Committee (PIDAC) standards and guidelines as well as the union collective agreement (CUPE) as applicable to MDRD staff.Responsibilities will include:
  • Scheduling the staff to ensure department coverage to support organizational needs in MDRD, Operating Room central corridor and the outpatient procedures suites (endoscopy, cysto/urology and minor procedures)
  • Provide support for the day to day coordination of activities, tasks, departmental assignments and updates, staff meetings and workload supporting both the Markham and Uxbridge sites
  • Supervise the reprocessing procedures ensuring compliance with safety and materials handling requirements while meeting the CSA and Accreditation Canada standards of practice
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure all required instrumentation and equipment is at appropriate par levels, ordered as necessary and received – including Plexxus procurement process for instrument and equipment repairs and/or replacements
  • Collaborate with the OR inventory coordinator to ensure specialty (loaner) instrumentation is received as per standard and reprocessed accordingly
  • Collaborate with external partners ensuring appropriate and timely service is provided to all departmental equipment maintaining good functioning order
  • Utilize allocated resources: staff, supplies, space and equipment to achieve the program vision, goals and objectives.
  • Perform, review and analyze the quality audits within the department
  • Prepare and analyze usage reports of instrumentation and inventory to support budget development and projections for future departmental planning
  • Assist with monitoring and reviewing any third-party vendor contracts for consumables and maintenance, software and systems in accordance with the contract terms, conditions, key performance indicators, vendor performance management etc. and liaise with the procurement department
  • Support and maintain the instrument data base (Alex Gold)
  • Review and inform appropriately of any updates to policies or standard operating procedures required based on the organizational review timelines or as standards and practices are updated
  • Accept and follow up on any issues or concerns related to instrument/equipment reprocessing
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure a safe and healthy work environment
  • Monitor staff absences and address as per organizational policy
  • Support and participate in return to work program
  • Maintain and promote an environment that is sensitive to the diversity of our internal and external communicates
  • Promote team spirit and a cohesive work atmosphere
  • Lead change effectively
  • Identify department education needs and make all appropriate arrangements to ensure continued competence within the staff
  • Perform performance discussions with staff as per organizational policy
  • Enter and update payroll information
  • Address and resolve staff and customer concerns
  • Develop and support onboarding of new staff
What you bring to Oak Valley Health:
  • The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the Operating Room instrumentation, equipment and standards
  • Graduate from a recognized MDR program with certification OR graduate from a recognized Operating Room course with recent Operating Room experience (within last 3 years) and willing to obtain MDR certification within 6 months of hire (required)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable standards (CSA, Accreditation Canada, ORNAC, PIDAC) and legislation (OHS, Ministry of Labour etc) - mandatory
  • Excellent written, verbal skills
  • Recent (within 3 years) experience either working in MDRD or the Operating Room (of an acute care hospital)
  • CSA certification – preferred (or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Working knowledge of Alex system or instrument tracking system – preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to handle conflict
  • Demonstrated ability to meet timelines in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and problem solve independently and in a collaborative manner
  • Recent experience leading in a union environment – preferred
  • Working knowledge of programs such as word, excel, power point etc.
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:The successful candidate will need to be available to work Monday - Friday, mainly Days, with some evenings/nights and weekends for follow-up and evaluation purposes.
