Job Description

What we need:As part of the Health Information Team, you will be responsible for helping to provide quality and timely clinical documentation. As a Medical Transcriptionist, you will transcribe, interpret and edit dictation for multiple clinical disciplines by:
  • Utilizing your sound knowledge of medical terminology to transcribe dictated reports which are used to document patient care and facilitate the delivery of health care services;
  • Proofreading and verifying transcribed material for accuracy and completeness;
  • Maintaining confidential electronic record of transcribed reports;
  • Adhering to Departmental Quality Standards;
  • Liaising with medical and hospital staff.
What you bring to the role:
  • Completion of a recognized post-secondary Medical Transcriptionist program at the certificate level or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience transcribing acute care medical reports for a hospital setting, including Operative reports
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology for multiple specialties
  • Demonstrated understanding of medico-legal implications and responsibilities related to the transcription of patient records including confidentiality, amendments to patient records, etc
  • Ability to keyboard a minimum of 80 wpm and minimum transcription count of 150 minutes per day
  • Experience operating dictation and transcription equipment required
  • Computer proficiency in a Microsoft Office/Windows software environment.
  • MModal and Meditech experience an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated good organization and time management skills
  • Ability to produce high quality and accurate work in accordance with Hospital’s standards
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as an effective team player
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule: The successful candidate will work days or evenings Monday to Friday and weekends. The current shifts are 600-1400, 700-1500, 800-1600 or 1400-2200. Please note schedules may change due to operational needs.
