Job Description

What we are looking for:We are looking for a Project Manager with significant planning experience who will be instrumental in leading, managing and/or undertaking a diverse array of large and complex land use planning policy and development control related special studies or projects. This often involves working with interprofessional teams of internal staff and external consultants. The position also supports the activities and initiatives of other departments undertaking corporate special projects, where expertise in project management is required.What you bring to the role:
  • Post-Secondary Degree in Architecture or Planning from a university program accredited by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) would be an asset
  • Certified Full Membership and recognized as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) in good standing with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), and/or with the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP certification), as recognized by the Professional Standards Board (PSB) for the Planning Profession in Canada preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation preferred
  • Relevant progressive professional planning experience in healthcare, municipal, public or consulting sector environment including demonstrated experience in leading and implementing complex projects
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act regulations and procedures, and other Provincial legislative, regulatory and policy framework with demonstrated expertise acquired from extensive, varied and progressively more responsible levels of professional planning experience – hospital planning experience would be an asset
  • Understanding of and experience with all stages of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care capital planning process is an asset
  • 7+ years’ experience in functional programming, hospital site, space and master planning preferred
  • manage the day-to-day activities associated with the planning stages of hospital redevelopment projects including liaison with hospital user groups, hospital leadership, municipality, foundations, Ministry of Health Capital Investment Branch, Infrastructure Ontario
  • Implement planning process and best practice including; budget, risk management and schedule control, and occupancy planning.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate all related meetings, including but not limited to User Group meetings, Community engagement, and others as necessary.
  • Act as the primary liaison, through multiple communication venues, between planning consultants, Engineering, end-users, architectural and other consultants to ensure hospital objectives are met
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, investigative, problem-solving, report writing, communication, presentation, and public speaking skills
  • Ability to respect confidentiality and to communicate effectively and courteously with all levels of staff, external government agencies/authorities, the development community, ratepayer groups and the general public
  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as to exercise significant judgment and work independently
  • Excellent leadership skills with an aptitude for coaching and mentoring that has been obtained through related courses and practice
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software applications, as well as Internet research abilities
  • Ongoing professional development to update and expand competencies in planning and project management related activities
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
  • Ability to travel between both Markham and Uxbridge hospital sites.
