  • Prepare Traffic Signal Design in urban environment.
  • Develop traffic signal and traffic control devices designs in Microstation, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D.
  • Direct, supervise, and mentor Microstation drafting technicians.
  • Design Experience in Temporary Traffic Control environment, functional roadway and intersection geometric, pavement marking and signage, AODA accessible path criteria, bicycle facilities, traffic signal system equipment, and roadway infrastructure dimensional relationship, and utility clearances.
  • Contribute significantly to and lead the successful design, production, coordination and management of Traffic signal design and consultancy projects.
  • Research into latest technology for traffic control devices, prepare technical reports, tender and contract documentation.
  • Conduct field support with respect to Traffic signal equipment and cabinet equipment setup and commissioning as may be required.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and internal team members (Engineers, Architects, Designers and Project Managers) in the design and specification development of Traffic Control Devices projects within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs.
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices.
  • Initiate and work with drafting staff to complete engineering drawings
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and the public.
  • Mentor and direct two to three designers or engineers.
  • Take directions from Associates or Associate Directors.
  • Client relationship building and management including but not limited to taking part in business development activities, proposal preparation, procuring staff resources, establishing project budgets and schedules, etc.
  • Prepare technical reports, tender documentation and field support (including commissioning/site inspection).
  • Ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final stamped reports.
QualificationsYoull need to have:
  • University Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering focused on transportation and/or traffic engineering.
  • 12+ years’ relevant experience in traffic/transit engineering design and operations (in a consulting environment) with proven experience in Temporary Traffic Control Design and Inspection, Functional Roadway and Intersection design, Traffic Control System Commissioning, Temporary Staging, and Traffic Operations/Analysis.
  • Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
  • Design and commissioning experience with BRT, LRT, and Rail signal priority and pre-emption system is preferred; ie: Traffic Control Devices Design and System commissioning; Previous experience in P3 linear Traffic Signal Design and/or Owner’s Engineers environment preferred.
  • Should have experience with local municipalities such as the City of Toronto, York Region and clients such as the MTO.
  • Experience with softwares such as Synchro / SimTraffic, HCS, and roundabout operations analysis applications, engineering software such as Microstation, AutoTurn, AutoCAD, Civil 3D design software is preferred.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering various projects in complexity and size/scope
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills applicable both internally with project delivery staff as well as externally with project partners (clients, consultants, contractors and regulatory authorities)
  • Familiarity with Ontario Traffic Manuals, Highway Traffic Acts, Ontario Regulations, TAC, MUTCDC, City of Toronto engineering standard(s)/guidelines/regulations, MTO OPSS/OPSD, Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Regulations 22/04 and associated pole-loading calculations, and OPSS Standards
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills applicable both internally with project delivery staff as well as externally with project partners (clients, consultants, contractors and regulatory authorities)
  • A valid, Class G, Ontario driver’s licence
  • Occasional travel is required.
