Job Description

What we are looking for:The successful candidate has a keen interest and demonstrated experience in leading quality improvement and patient safety activities. This role will be responsible for supporting corporate quality improvement initiatives while working with the organizational leadership and staff to create policies and procedures that support high quality care, enhance staff & patient safety and experience. The mandate of this role includes the analysis of patient safety incident data and patient care trends. You collaborate with key stakeholders, providing guidance, support, subject matter expertise and education in the management of quality and patient safety. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong relationship-building, facilitation, and negotiation skills and have an astute ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously. The Quality & Patient Safety Specialist contributes to the leadership of the Quality & Patient Safety Program in supporting a corporate continuous performance improvement culture resulting in enhanced quality care, patient safety and a positive patient experience.Responsibilities (including but are not limited)
  • Facilitate the identification, development, implementation and monitoring of quality improvement initiatives enabled by expert working knowledge of improvement methodologies and project management.
  • Builds organizational capacity for improvement through coaching and mentoring, and shares knowledge of patient safety principles legislated standards and quality improvement methodology. (e.g., reliable design, Human Factors, PDSA, root cause analysis, FMEA, lean, value stream mapping).
  • Support continuous improvement focused on such areas as clinical appropriateness of care, efficiency, effectiveness, work-flow, access to care, continuity of care, safety and patient experience
  • Apply a systems-focused approach to achieve optimal results in quality, safety, reliability, efficiency and productivity
  • Assist in the selection and analysis of quality-related performance indicators to monitor organizational, program, and/or unit level performance to ensure alignment with strategic direction.
  • Assist teams with collection, interpretation, analysis and presentation of performance data
  • Apply change management principles and coach clinical teams through the change process
  • Participate in review of clinical issues, facilitates discussions and recommend changes
  • Contribute to the achievement and maintenance of corporate patient safety standards and Required Organizational Practices
  • Promotes a “just culture” environment, consults with and provides advice to organizational leaders regarding error prevention strategies
Work SchedulePrimarily days - Monday to Friday with flexibility to meet needs of the department. Schedules may change based on operational needs.CompensationBAND H: $39.42 - $56.42 per hourWhat you bring to Oak Valley Health:
  • A degree in a health care related discipline, Engineering or a combination of Project Management and LEAN Certification
  • Canadian Patient Safety Officer (CPSO) certification or equivalent considered an asset
  • Recent and related experience in quality and safety in a hospital setting
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize quality improvement tools and techniques
  • Ability to review and analyze data and ability to generate written and verbal reports
  • Demonstrated computer software expertise including , spreadsheets, graphics, PowerPoint
  • Self-directed and strong collaborative skills
  • A strong understanding and knowledge of the hospital health care system and health legislation including the Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA), Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection Act (FIPPA), Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA),etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop trusting, credible relationships with all levels of staff, physicians, volunteer
  • Excellent problem solving, decision-making, critical thinking skills and ability to generate ideas and fresh perspective
  • Ability to deal with multiple complex issues and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong mediation and conflict resolution skills and ability to remain third-party neutral
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
