Job Description

What we are looking for:The role will be vital to Risk Management by identifying potential high risk situations, ensuring effective planning and preparedness for and the coordination of response and recovery to emergencies and the promotion of patient safety across the organization. Provide management and senior management with a risk management reports and risk indicators, as required. As well as collaborate with internal partners to incorporate the Risk Management function in support of hospital activities to provide a safe hospital environment. Provide system administration of the incident reporting system (iReport) and provide reports and training as needed.. Provide support and gather evidence for the hospital’s liability insurer of actual and potential claims.Duties and Responsibilities Include:Enterprise Risk Management functions:
  • Assist Risk Manager in developing and administering an integrated risk management program that focuses on enterprise-wide risk reduction, with an emphasis on clinical risk
  • In collaboration with key internal and external stakeholder coordinate identification, reporting, evaluation, and correction/prevention of risk
  • Support events aimed at identifying improvements related to risk management
  • In collaboration with key internal and external stakeholder ensure policies and procedures are in place that relate to key areas of potential risk and liability for the hospital
  • Facilitate participation and completion of the Risk Assessment Checklist (RAC) information gathering and reporting program
Claims Management and Legal/Insurance Interface for the Organization:
  • Assist with claims related to patient/visitor liability to the corporation’s insurance company
  • Coordinate the corporation’s investigations and defense with HIROC, Insurance Adjusters and Legal Counsel
  • Help support, information and assistance to staff members involved in claims, potential claims and hospital investigations.
  • Assist with case developments and submissions
  • Investigation and follow-up of reported events in collaboration with the program lead that has primary accountability and responsibility for conducting the review
  • Complete requests for certificates of insurance
  • Maintain record keeping and filing of all related documentation
  • Support requests for meetings with legal or insurance adjusters
Complete system administrative tasks associated with the RL Datix incident reporting system including permission requests, report requests, report audits, basic orientationPolicy Management and Emergency Preparedness
  • Provide feedback for risk consultation on policies as requested; escalate to Risk Manager if needed
  • Track policies related to Integrated Risk Management, and ensure timely review, revision and approval as needed
  • Provide some support for emergency preparedness debrief or exercises
What you bring to the role:
  • Bachelor degree - 4 years and/or degree/certificate in health care discipline or related field required
  • Experience with leading committees
  • Advanced knowledge of computer modules (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the RL Datix reporting system
  • Demonstrates excellent planning, organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Adaptable and able to prioritize conflicting demands and work within tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Demonstrated ability in interpersonal, diplomacy, prioritization, facilitation and team building skills
  • Demonstrated abilities in analytical critical thinking, problem-solving and consultation

  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:The successful candidate must be available to work onsite regular business hours 830- 430 Monday- Friday.
