Job Description

In order to provide you with fair & equitable accommodation, you must submit supporting medical exemption documentation or an affidavit detailing why your religion prohibits you from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.What we are looking for:FACS – Feeding Assessment and Consultation Services (FACS)The Feeding Assessment and Consultation Services (FACS) team provides clinical feeding assessment and consultation for children and adolescents living in York Region and Simcoe County with complex feeding needs. The successful candidate will work closely with other clinicians from Early Intervention Services (EIS), Children’s Treatment Centre (CTN) and the school board as part of this larger team.Local Team Feeding, York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program (YRPSLP)The local feeding team clinician sees clients without complex feeding needs who are on the waitlist and/or currently being seen in YRPSLP services. This clinician will work closely with other Speech and Language Pathologists (SLPs) in order to coordinate services and provide consultation as needed.Understanding that this position does require some specialty training, Oak Valley Health (OVH), CTN and the FACS team will work closely with this individual to support learning and mentorship opportunities.The responsibilities will include:

  • To examine the child’s ability to safely manage liquids and foods during feeding.
  • To assess the strength and movement of the muscles involved in feeding.
  • To provide suggestions or strategies to improve the child’s ability to suck, chew, or swallow.
  • To support the client/family during transitions from tube feeding to oral feeding.
  • To provide education to clients, families, care providers and other professionals.
  • To work as a member of the feeding clinic team (FACS) to complete a team-based assessment of the child’s feeding skills and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • To collaborate with other professionals involved in the child’s care (e.g., Physician, Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, and Early Interventionist).
  • Documenting all information in the Children’s Treatment Network’s shared electronic record
  • Liaison with external agencies and school boards as appropriate
  • Provide feeding support or consultation to York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program’s clinicians when required
What you bring to the role:
  • Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology
  • Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Previous experience dealing with paediatric populations would be a definite asset
  • Experience working with children with special needs, including children with autism spectrum disorder is considered an asset
  • Previous experience working with a developmental assessment clinic is considered an asset
  • Experience supporting children with permanent hearing loss, including auditory skills development is an asset
  • Certification in the Hanen programs: It Takes Two to Talk® and More than Words® is an asset
  • Ability to offer services in more than one language is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the team
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
