Job Description

In order to provide you with fair & equitable accommodation, you must submit supporting medical exemption documentation or an affidavit detailing why your religion prohibits you from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.POSITION DESCRIPTION:The York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program is administered by Oak Valley Health (OVH). We provide a coordinated community based speech and language service for children, birth to kindergarten entry. The program engages in collaborative service delivery with other community agencies such as Early Intervention Services, the Children’s Treatment Network and the York-Simcoe Autism Network. Flexibility to provide services across York Region and in a variety of settings (e.g., clinic, child care centres, entry to school programs, virtual) is required. These positions will include providing school based rehabilitation services for children in kindergarten through a partnership with the Children’s Treatment Network.The responsibilities will include:

  • Assessment and treatment of a variety of disorders, including language, phonology, articulation, dysfluency, children with Autism
  • Spectrum Disorder, and children with developmental disabilities
  • Working collaboratively with the family, Early Intervention Services and licensed child care providers in order to support a Routines
  • Based Model (RBM) approach of intervention
  • Working collaboratively with school board Speech-Language Pathologists for children receiving school based rehabilitation service
  • Preparing assessment, reassessment, progress updates and discharge reports
  • Making treatment decisions based on the assessment results
  • Implementing therapeutic techniques with individual clients and with groups
  • Supervision of Communicative Disorders Assistant(s)
  • Counseling the child’s caregivers and /or families
  • Liaising with external health agencies, school boards and children’s mental health agencies
  • Designing and providing education programs and literature for children, families and others
  • Taking an active role in performing and maintaining professional practice standards, guidelines and activities
  • Actively involved in public education and performing other related duties
  • Current positions may include providing virtual and in-person services
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology
  • Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Previous experience dealing with paediatric populations would be a definite asset
  • Experience working with children with special needs, including children with autism spectrum disorder is considered an asset
  • Previous experience working with a developmental assessment clinic is considered an asset
  • Experience supporting children with permanent hearing loss, including auditory skills development is an asset
  • Certification in the Hanen programs: It Takes Two to Talk® and More than Words® is an asset
  • Ability to offer services in more than one language is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the team
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
Current schedule is Monday to Friday, Days. Candidates must also be available for evenings and weekends for workshops as needed.
