In 2004, and in response to an emerging threat, the Canadian Centre for Mosquito Management formed a partnership with Public Health Units across Southern Ontario to develop a fully integrated program of surveillance, public education, and vector management. Mosquito larviciding remains a key component of this vector management strategy, and in particular the abatement of mosquitoes in the extensive network of storm-water catch basins and in surface waters located on public properties.
