Job Description

What we need:Reporting to the Manager, Plant Maintenance, the Supervisor, will be responsible for the day-to-day functional operations of Plant Maintenance. This will include assisting in planning, control and supervision of maintenance work and operation of all base building systems as well as interior and exterior building components. The Supervisor will also provide coverage for the Manager, Facilities and Plant Maintenance, as necessary, ensuring the continuity of all services through the availability of redundant equipment, appropriate staff/trade coverage and repair service.Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Acting as a primary contact for issues relating to the plant operations and maintenance
  • Ensuring the efficient utilization and supervision of staff, contractors, supplies, utilities and equipment
  • Overseeing daily routines and ensuring preventive maintenance work is completed
  • Participating in the development of policy, procedure and preventive maintenance routines – frequencies/schedules
  • Ensuring efficient operation of the power plant and facility by utilizing computerized corrective and preventative maintenance programs
  • Assisting in organizing and maintaining technical information, regulatory compliance records, licensing and certification of all elements of HVAC system, elevators, electrical etc.
  • Participating in employee human resource matters as required
  • Participating in the orientation of new staff, training/education of staff and on-going development of departmental best practices
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of modifications to the building and plant equipment, contracted repairs, and renovation projects
  • Conducting staff performance appraisals
  • Perform quality audits and work order inspection and follow-ups
What you bring to Oak Valley Health:
  • College level education with equivalent work related knowledge of building operations & maintenance OR a valid Ontario third class stationary engineers certificate OR a trade license (Millwright, Electrician, Refrigeration Mechanic)
  • Minimum 5 years related hospital related experience in plant operations (steam generators, refrigeration, building automation systems)
  • 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience, healthcare preferred
  • Knowledge of trouble shooting & repairing building systems and performing other related plant duties as required
  • Knowledge of building automation systems, life safety systems, electrical systems and HVAC
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical and control drawings
  • Experience with boiler/chiller plant and auxiliary’s operation and maintenance
  • Extensive experience with a preventative maintenance management program
  • Experience with preparing and maintaining departmental schedules and troubleshooting scheduling concerns according to CUPE collective agreement
  • Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, internet, e-mail, etc.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment would be an asset
  • Healthcare project management experience would be an asset
  • Proven leadership skills with excellent coaching, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven organizational and time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:Primarily Days (Monday to Friday), with flexibility for on-call, evenings and weekends as required. Schedules are subject to change based on operational needs.
