Job Description

What we are looking for:This role is responsible for leading, coaching and providing direction to other members of the specific function area in Finance, in the operational aspects of their roles, as well as on departmental initiatives and projects. There are 2 specific functions in Finance, Accounting and Reporting, Financial Planning and Analysis. The team lead, Finance role will be particularly responsible for the Financial Planning and Analysis function areas:Financial Planning and Analysis
  • Direct reports include 3 Sr. Financial Analysts, 1 Financial Analysts
  • Manage team process with preparation of monthly program and corporate variance analysis and notes including supporting documentation
  • Provide financial support to selective programs /departments
  • Foster strong working relationships between Finance business partners and programs and strengthen technical skills to drive financial support efficiencies
  • Assist with annual budget planning, preparation and reporting processes
  • Coordinate and manage processes associated with the development of annual operating and capital budget
  • Work with the team to complete quarterly forecasting processes, coordinate those respective processes and prepare analysis and reports
  • Monitor forecast tracking, additional revenue, cost reduction and cost savings initiatives
  • Provide insightful, actionable recommendations related to but not limited to profitability, cost structure, and benchmarking with other hospitals, etc.
  • Develop various management presentations as required
  • Monitors the ongoing development and maintenance of the various budget and forecast applications /systems, financial analysis tools to ensure efficient processing of data within controlled environments
  • Review the preparation of Ministry of Health and Long Term Care / Ontario Health reports, such as SRI, HAPs, CAPs, case costing and other ad-hoc, ensuring their accuracy and timeliness
Common roles and responsibilities:
  • Monitor and review team work and ensure timely and accurate completion of team deliverables
  • Develop, implement and maintain internal process and procedure documentation and look for ways to improve the existing processes
  • Work with Director, Finance, to design, develop and implement effective internal controls over Finance areas
  • Develop various management reports and presentations as required
  • Accountable for the performance management of direct reports including setting work priorities, attendance/vacation approvals, etc.
  • Approve vacations, work with staff to ensure coverage and cross training for all duties within the team
  • Recruitment of new team members
  • Ensure expectations are clarified, understood and met
  • Performance management/ reviews completed with team members
  • Work with team members to realize their career goals by developing /finding opportunities for staff to realize stretch goals, assisting as needed
  • Provide coaching to the team to ensure goals are reached
  • Rounding: understanding what work is currently being done, creating tools and standard processes to find better ways to complete the work
  • Assist team in prioritizing, completing and rolling out various projects/ initiatives
  • Resolve complex outstanding issues with stakeholders and serve as an escalation point of contact in the team
  • Develop strategic work plans that achieve Finance departmental and corporate objectives
  • Create and execute Finance related education sessions for Managers and Leaders across the organization on financial processes and tools
  • Develop relationships with internal and external customers and work to exceed customer expectations for Finance functions
What you bring to the role:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business
  • Canadian accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in a finance role in a fast paced and progressive professional environment, hospital/healthcare environment preferred
  • 1-5 years of leadership experiences required
  • Strong knowledge of public sector accounting standards and accounting rules
  • Strong organizational skills, analysis and problem solving, detail oriented and highly motivate
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point) skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment and as a strong individual contributor
  • Ability to meet individual deadlines, as well as work collaboratively with team to help them meet deadlines
  • Management and leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor and train team members into effective high performance team
  • Experience in preparing and presenting insights based on analyses, key metrics trending and quantified risks and opportunities
  • Strong business and finance acumen and demonstrated ability to draw insights from information and convey complex information in a straight forward manner
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
