Join the City of Medicine Hat as the Manager - Electric Systems Planningamp; CompliancePermanent, Full time, On SiteThe City of Medicine Hat is proud to be one of the rare municipalities that not only generates its own power, but also owns and operates the distribution system that transmits electricity to our community! Reporting to the Director of Utilities Distribution Systems, the Manager of Electric Systems Planning and Compliance is accountable for the functional system operation of the distribution system and for meeting all regulatory compliance obligations. This position requires technical expertise in electric transmission, distribution, substation and SCADA systems, as well as demonstrated competency with the regulatory codes and standards impacting the utility, including Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. Your key responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains and provides reporting for compliance with ARS, NERC- CIP programs, as well as liaises with the Power Generation department to ensure consistent application of the regulatory processes.
  • Ensure reliability, cost effectiveness and functionality of the electrical infrastructure through developing, proposing and maintaining system operating plans.
  • Develops and maintains system capacity modelling and is responsible for long term electrical infrastructure functionality and growth planning.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, mentorship and development to the workgroup.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution. A Graduate degree is an asset.
  • Ten (10) years #39; experience specifically pertaining to regulatory compliance programs within electrical power generation, electrical transmission, or electrical distribution environment including five (5) years supervisory experience.
  • Membership (or eligibility) Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Vehicle Operator #39;s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • An equivalent combination of management approved training, experience and education may be considered.
  • This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and required the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
