Job Description

Heavy Duty MechanicLocation: Medicine Hat, ABSOUTHLAND is currently seeking a Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team of maintenance professionals. This role is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses.Duties

  • Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses
  • Diagnose equipment problems
  • CVIP Inspections
  • Respond to breakdowns
  • Spring and winter maintenance
  • Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
  • Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
  • Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
Requirements
  • Journeyman Ticket (Heavy Duty)
  • Own hand tools
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • 2 - 5 years related experience
  • Valid Driver #39;s License (Class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
  • CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
  • Exposure to working on diesel engines
  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools, including micrometers, brake drum gauge, Ohmmeters, and AVR (Amps, Voltsamp; Resistors)
  • Computer proficiency
Remuneration
  • Commensurate with experience
  • Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)

  • Group Registered Retirement Savings (RRSP) Plan (available after 12 months)
  • Annual Tool and Boot Allowance - $700 (pro-rated from start date - available in last quarter of the year, and each subsequent year)
