TheAssistant Food Services Manager & Cook position at Merrick Preparatory School has tremendous input, freedom and autonomy.Merrick Preparatory School is a grade 9 - 12 university preparatory high school located in a beautiful historic building in the scenic village of Merrickville, 45 minutes from Ottawa. Since 2012 we have been providing a world class boarding and educational experience for students from around the world who are looking to gain admission into a top tier university.PRIMARY FUNCTION:Reporting to the Food Services Manager, you will provide nutritious satisfying meals to the Merrick Preparatory School community, including students and staff, using our large commercial kitchen. Meals include, but are not limited to, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The Assistant Food Services Manager & Cook supports the Food Services Manager in the preparation of food, food orders, tracking inventory and ensures a safe, clean, hygienic and food safe environment according to the laws and requirements of Ontario and Canada. The Assistant Food Services Manager & Cook works independently preparing, cooking and serving food.WORK HOURS:Monday & Wednesday: 10:30am – 7:00pmTuesday, Thursday, Friday: 1:00pm - 7:00pm- Total Hours Per Week: 32.5 hours- Additional Shifts may be available, if requested.JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Assists with planning meals and menus
  • Prepares, cooks and serves meals
  • Promotes and maintains safe and sanitary food preparation and work environment
  • Superior client service
  • Adaptability and flexibility
  • Superior organizational and time management skills – neat, clean and professional
  • Cleans kitchen after use, including dishes, sweeping and mopping
EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma, required
  • College Diploma in culinary arts or other relevant field, required or related experience
  • Police Record Check, Vulnerable Sector, required (can be secured once hired)
  • First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Defibrillation Certificate, required
  • WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety on-line training, required (can be acquired once hired)
EXPERIENCE:
  • Two years’ experience working in a professional kitchen/food services environment
