Job Description

OverviewThe Bridge Program is a pilot program which is a continued initiative designed as a skills-based training for newcomer youths (16-21), during which intensive language and workplace skills training will be delivered to meet learners’ needs. This continuum will be finalized with a language and culture-scaffolded workplace experience. Students will access pre-employment and language training combined with digital literacy and experiential learning. This position is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of workplace essentials and workplace language training to support clients. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to creating career pathways and better integration of newcomer youths in our province.The Workplace Learning Facilitator in collaboration with the Bridge Program Coordinator within the School Districts- will work with newcomer youths to identify their current and future work goals, transferrable skills, and career pathways. This position will focus on instructing afternoon classes around cultural awareness and specific sector language that will help the advancement needed for newcomer youth to transition, adapt, and thrive in the workforce. The facilitator focuses on essential workplace skills, career-focused language skills development and wellness activities, using authentic workplace materials and customized curriculum to meet the learning needs identified through learner assessments. This is a term position from November 2022 to March 2024 and will work closely with the program’s provincial lead at NBMC while reporting to MAGMA’S Community Connections Manager.Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the program coordinators at the school districts, create a personalized curriculum that meets the goals of this program: labour market readiness training, workplace language, experiential learning, and community engagement
  • Co-lead the promotion of the program and the recruitment of program participants
  • Develop individual language and skills acquisition plans based on technical language and workplace terminology required for job placements
  • Plan and instruct afternoon classes as per the curriculum for the program
  • Engage in participant case management including problem-solving with the program coordinator at the school district
  • Provide digital literacy support to participants
  • Build and sustain relationships with learners
  • Evaluate, record, and report learners progress
  • Seek or create learning resources for learners as needs arise
  • Establish and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Collaborate with other team members on participant progress
  • Secure and monitor summer work placements and mentorship for participants
  • Coordinate with employers and other community organizations as needed
  • Provide job coaching and problem-solving support during work placements
  • Conduct post project follow- up with participants
  • Manage administrative responsibilities
  • Travel within the province as required
  • Other duties as required
Skills and Qualifications
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university in a field related to workplace education / Community College diploma or similar from an accredited institution / a recognized Adult Education credential
  • Teaching, facilitating of training experience OR have a minimum of 1-year work experience in a cross-cultural environment OR heightened sensitivity to the needs of newcomer youth and adult learners.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of child education principles and the needs of newcomer learners as well as recognition of and respect for cultural diversity.
  • Demonstrate the ability to, and an understanding of, the need to use a variety of teaching/learning strategies to engage learners with diverse learning needs and styles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism and attention to detail is necessary.
  • The facilitator will need to be able to facilitate both individual and group learning and to enhance the curriculum with level-appropriate experiential activities.
  • Must be exceptionally organized and demonstrate superior time management skills.
  • Can demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible, outgoing and prepared to take on new tasks.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat DC, Survey Monkey and Doodle.

Core Staff DutiesThe following core responsibilities are required of all MAGMA staff:
  • Event Participation: As a multicultural association which networks extensively with other organizations as well as hosting a wide variety of events, MAGMA staff are asked to be flexible in arranging to take part as these events usually take place outside of regular working hours. While each staff’s role may involve specific activities, in general the staff are required to attend core events including the Annual General Meeting and the Mosaïq Multicultural Festival. Time spent at these events are taken in lieu, as arranged with the department manager.
  • Administration: As a government-funded organization we are required to report in detail on our activities. Staff are therefore required to submit a variety of regular reports on the fulfilment of their role requirements.
