Job Description

Under general direction and supervision of the Manager, Personal Underwriting Excellence – Quality Assurance, the Data Mining Specialist performs data analytics in support of the Personal Underwriting Excellence – Quality Assurance Function.Note; This is expected to be a 12 month term opportunityJob Responsibilities

  • Assists with developing customized scripts that effectively review large groups of data and extract relevant information that will assist the Personal Underwriting Excellence – Quality Assurance Team in detecting control weaknesses and revealing trends, patterns, and relationships that might otherwise have remained undetected.
  • Assists with designing and executing queries, extracting, and manipulating data for subsequent review.
  • Executes previously developed scripts as part of the department's continuous monitoring procedures.
  • Works with the Quality Assurance Team to perform data analysis procedures as applicable in support of ongoing quality assurance reviews.
  • Manipulates and analyzes data in a variety of formats (e.g. SQL, ODBC, and Excel).
  • Identifies and documents routine issues and develops recommendations using independent judgement.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with internal clients and various stakeholders.
  • Assists with conducting special reviews of various areas on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Pursues professional development opportunities and professional association memberships.
  • Assists with representing Quality Assurance on project teams and at management meetings.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years information technology experience, with some audit or quality assurance related experience.
  • Bachelor of Computer Science degree or other related post-secondary degree.
  • Proficiency with advanced functions in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle, Mainframe or other databases is required.
  • Working knowledge of SQL developer, SQL plus, or Microstrategy is required.
  • Working knowledge of ACL or Idea software would be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Sound organizational and time management skills.
  • Sound interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong disposition towards continuous learning and development.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Insurance related experience is a definite asset.
  • Commitment to obtaining the CIP designation.
