Job Description

Job Title: Preschool Educator The main role of any educator is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to feel welcomed and inspired to learn and explore while building trusting relationships with families, coworkers and people within our community.Qualifications:

  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Social Development Check
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate/equivalent degree and, or Online ECE training course
  • Good medical health allowing all required duties to be fulfilled successfully
Knowledge and Characteristics Required
  • A strong understanding of varying child growth and developmental milestones
  • Experience in implementing the NB Curriculum Framework for Early Childhood Education
  • Empathy and open-mindedness to understand the individual needs of each family
  • An ability to maintain a safe, sanitary and positive environment
  • The ability to remain calm and patient in all situations
Responsibilities:
  • Advocating for the children by reporting any signs of abuse and/or neglect
  • Maintaining accurate government records
  • Using respectful child guidance techniques that promote independence, empathy toward others and positive communication
  • Ensuring the classroom and center are kept in a safe, clean and presentable state
  • Providing multiple forms of communication to parents demonstrating the learning that takes place daily (monthly newsletters, written message on the white board, learning stories, other displayed forms of documentation and posts to our private NELC Parent Info group)
  • Describing the program and the philosophies you share with the center to perspective families
  • Being supportive of the center as a whole by understanding that you may be required to change classrooms for either short, or long-term periods when needed and trusting that decisions are made with the children’s best interest in mind
Creating a Program that Meets Developmental Needs
  • Engaging in the children’s play to discover their personalities and interests
  • Planning activities that are appealing to the children and promote developmental growth
  • Knowing when to implement which type of activity based on the energy of the children in the classroom
  • Documenting moments of trials, perseverance, collaboration and success to display the outcome of the children’s learning
  • Ensuring that all children 2 and older have a minimum of 1 document per month and children under 2 have 2 documents per month that speaks directly to their learning
Professional Standards
  • Conduct oneself ethically in all situations with children, families, staff and students
  • Adhering to the center’s confidentiality policy regarding all information and knowledge acquired of children, families and other personnel as well as all business operations and connections
  • Represent the center’s values and professional standards when in the community
  • Ensuring that all required courses and personal checks are up-to-date and renewed prior to any expiration dates (First Aid, Criminal Record, Social Development, etc.)
  • Attending all mandatory group staff meetings to receive information as well as share any feedback, suggestions, or concerns
  • Reporting all concerns and potential issues to the director immediately to prevent inconsistencies to the program, the physical space and atmosphere of the center
  • Completing a minimum of 12 hours of professional development per calendar year
Annual Review
  • An annual performance review will be completed collaboratively by the educator and the director
  • Professional development hours must be completed by the time of the annual review
  • At the time of the annual review the following documents must be reviewed: Operator Manual, Fire Evacuation Plan, Child Victims of Abuse Protocols and all other recommended documents and policies
