As part of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Canadas federal funding agency for health research, we provide funding support and leadership to health researchers and trainees across Canada in our mandate area.The IHDCYH team is a busy, highly collaborative, supportive and dynamic team based in Halifax, Toronto and Ottawa, that works on multiple simultaneous projects and initiatives in the field of child, youth and family health research with short to long-term deadlines, making for an exciting and highly dynamic work environment.Job SummaryReporting to the Associate Director, the Lead - Strategic Initiatives will help make a difference in the lives of children, youth, and families by leading a portfolio of IHDCYHs strategic initiatives. This includes the planning, design and implementation of multi-faceted projects, including stakeholder engagement, funding and capacity building activities, as well as the development of policies and innovative approaches to address areas of need for the human development, child and youth health research community.Key Responsibilities

• Program and Project Management: Lead the design, development and implementation of strategic initiatives, including timelines, budgets, written materials, engagement activities, and liaise with internal collaborators to ensure timely and efficient program delivery.
• Performance Measurement and Evaluation: Conduct analysis to assess impact of funded research, initiatives and activities including developing and implementing appropriate methods and tools to gather researcher input and data, then writing reports. Lead additional evaluation and reporting activities, as required.
• Institute Governance: Manage the IHDCYH Institute Advisory Board, including organizing semi-annual and ad hoc meetings and leading the board member recruitment process to ensure diverse and inclusive representation and conversation.
• Policy Development: Support the development of CIHR policy, collaborate on ministerial and parliamentary briefing materials, participate in working groups, and draft briefing materials and reports for key CIHR governance tables.
• Partnerships: Work to strengthen IHDCYHs activities and impact by developing and maintaining key strategic relationships with local, provincial, national, and international organizations, including other funding organizations, government, non-government and voluntary organizations.
• Writing, Information Synthesis and Briefing: Draft a range of professional materials, including comprehensive environmental scans, briefing notes for senior-level leadership, business cases, reports and funding proposals, as well as develop and deliver engaging presentations of technical subject matter in plain language.

NoteLocal and national travel, estimated to be a 10% time commitment, may be required. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet operational requirements.Federal government security clearance, paid for through CIHR, will be required upon hire.The successful applicant may work in-person on campus, primarily remotely, or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.Preference will be given to candidates located in Halifax or Toronto.Dalhousies vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary.QualificationsGraduate degree in a health-related field (or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience, for example, in research, clinical or grant administration, evaluation, and/or performance measurement methodology) is required. Experience developing written materials and presentations summarizing health and/or research-related information is required. A high attention to detail with an ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required. Due to a continually evolving workflow, must demonstrate flexibility, strong problem-solving skills, and a willingness to take initiative. Must possess excellent verbal and written English communication skills. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and comfort with video conference technology are required. Experience supporting the development of a diverse and inclusive research and working environment, as well as experience working with community partners, including patients, families, children and youth are assets. Knowledge of Canadas health research and research funding environment is an asset.
