Job Description

Job DescriptionReporting to the Senior Manager of International Content, the Lead Editor, Japanese is responsible for leveraging Japanese content to create engaging and dynamic initiatives that generate traffic and drive conversion within SSENSE’s marketing channels. The Lead Editor will be responsible for creating platform-native content for channels including but not limited to newsletters, push notifications, organicamp; paid social, editorial, and multi-channel organicamp; paid campaigns. They will either leverage existing English content by translating or adapting to Japanese, or create native Japanese content to engage the audience through relevant Japanese social media platforms such as Line. As such, this candidate must not only be a skilled copywriter and translator, but someone adept at platform-specific strategies and original content creation. They will lead a team of internal and external talent and be the main point of contact for marketing copy in Japanese across SSENSE. They will collaborate closely with the stakeholders involved in the aforementioned initiatives and manage the pipeline of work and project intake. This individual will be responsible for the timely delivery of effective copy. The ideal candidate is someone with strong leadership qualities who is passionate about fashion and design, and who enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Responsibilities Content Strategyamp; Content Creation 30%

  • Stay in tune with Japanese audiences including but not limited to local trends, cultural aspirations and internet language. Stay in tune with global internet culture and viral trends, with an eye toward creating content that enters SSENSE into the online conversation.
  • Develop and execute original content marketing franchises — in collaboration with SSENSE Content team — that translate into effective and engaging marketing communications.
  • Deploy insights based on performance data and knowledge of marketing platforms to craft channel-specific content strategies that engage audiences and drive conversion.
  • Create platform-specific and conversion-driven extensions of wider Content initiatives by collaborating with peers in the wider Content organization
  • Suggest market-specific content initiatives to amplify SSENSE international voice, including the creative market-specific content for SSENSE Editorial.
  • Bring platform-specific content for Japanese social media platforms to life from ideation to publishing.
  • Propose product curations that engage users in the Japanese-speaking markets and highlight the SSENSE POV by collaboratingwith peers in Content, Planning, and Marketing
  • Attend wider Content brainstorms and ideation sessions, contributing new ideas and proposals to SSENSE Content at large to ensure the cohesive brand voice and to deliver intended message
  • Ensure all new content creation remains in line with the overall SSENSE languageamp; channel content strategy by performing regular reporting to the Senior Manager, International Content and Marketing stakeholders such as quarterly check-ins, campaign post mortems. Provide regular reports and documentation to the Senior Manager of international Content to ensure transparency and visibility to key company stakeholders on the Japanese application of SSENSE TOV.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all content compliance checks for Japanese-speaking markets. Identify and flag risks of compliance issues in time and work with the Legal team to provide solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to grow the audience base including but not limited to new platforms, features and content format; support the Senior Manager, international Content in developing documentation for key company stakeholders.
Copywriting, Translation and Editing - 40%
  • Use translation and copywriting skills to turn briefs from Marketing Stakeholders into engaging, effective copy that is on-brand, including but not limited to newsletters, push notifications, organicamp; paid social, editorial, and multi-channel organicamp; paid campaigns.
  • Adapt SSENSE global marketing campaigns and outreach initiatives to Japanese: leverage data and market knowledge to translate from English copy, adapt from English or copywrite in Japanese to ensure both team efficiency and content relevancy.
  • Coordinate with peers in Customer Analytics, Content, Outbound Comms, and Growth to have an understanding of wider SSENSE initiatives and objectives to ensure the delivery of Japanese content output in a timely manner. Act as the main point of contact for all marketing copy-related requests, receiving briefs from and updating stakeholders from other teams and departments.
  • Quality check copy in Japanese to ensure the output from the team members and freelancers is on-brand and compliant with the Japanese audience.
  • Deploy a strong SSENSE Copy Tone-of-Voice (TOV) that is dynamic, culturally relevant, and obtains marketing objectives without being off-brand, overly salesy, or “cringe”.
  • Ensure the copywriting stays relevant to the marketing intention by coordinating efficiently with key stakeholders
  • Respond with agility to feedback as well as evolving trends in digital language/marketing, iterating on ideas quickly and independently to arrive at a final result.
  • Leverage A/B testing and other insights to hone in on effective word choices and phrases, with an eye toward traffic and conversion.
  • Document and uphold a marketing style guide for Japanese copy that outlines the SSENSE TOV.
  • Create and update, in a timely manner, language and channel guidelines to provide clarity to internal and external talents.
  • Manage and maintain an SSENSE TOV that is absent of errors and consistent across channels, top-editing and coaching direct reports and freelancers to do so as well.
People Leadership - 30%
  • Provide training and actionable writing feedback to team members and freelancers, holding one-on-one meetings with them for quality review purposes.
  • Manage the delegation of marketing copywriting to team members and freelancers, ensuring that all projects are executed in a timely manner.
  • Lead hiring efforts and conduct interviews to attract and retain top talent.
  • Lead the creation and development of training documentation for the team.
  • Hold weekly one-on-ones, conduct performance reviews, analyze individual KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each contributor evolve in their roles.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership to gage and monitor team engagement and implement solutions to create a transparent, collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership to establish the short term objectives for the department and ensure team #39;s are engaged towards achieving the department #39;s missions.
  • Conduct performance reviews, analyze individual KPIs and assess promotion readiness to help each contributor evolve in their roles.
  • Be a leader in creating a positive, collaborative and inclusive culture within the team and with key stakeholders.
