Photographer/Photo Editor, MontrealThe Canadian Press is seeking a Photographer/Photo Editor in Montreal. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of excellent photojournalism including news, sports and feature stories in Canada and abroad. The successful candidate will be a self-starter but also capable of working collaboratively with colleagues to produce visual content to illustrate the news of the day as well as organize coverage. Responsibilities:• Effectively follow news tips and generate visual story ideas.• Arrange coverage and communicate daily coverage plans in coordination with the Photo Desk in Toronto.• Edit assignments, including writing accurate photo captions.• Consistently earn play with accurate, well-crafted and creative images.• Edit photos on location or remotely in coordination with the Photo Desk as required.• While this position is responsible for Montreal and the surrounding geographic area, all photographers also cover major events outside their regions, including federal elections, sporting events and spot news. Travel is a significant component of the job and will be required. • Some video shooting is also required.Skills:• Strong knowledge of photography and digital camera equipment.• Working knowledge of videography and audio recording equipment.• Strong knowledge of computers and imaging, networking and transmission software.• Attention to detail.• Ability to work quickly and accurately, often under deadline.• Strong news judgment and knowledge of all types of news: sports, general, political.• Excellent communication and organizational skills.• Ability to work independently.• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.• Fluency in both official languages is required.
