Milner group continues to provide services such as trucking, gravel quarrying, demolition, and hazardous materials abatement, hauling, and disposal services for residential and commercial waste to a diverse range of clients in the Mid-Island area. Our team is passionate about our work and committed to our clients —no project is too big or small for Milner Group!VANCOUVER ISLAND IS WHERE WE LIVE, WORK & PLAY!The Opportunity: We are seeking a full time Estimator/Project Manager to join our growing company, as a key member of our dynamic management team. The successful applicant will prepare civil cost estimates for various construction projects, or services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of service. Additionally, they will provide leadership and oversight for secured projects. Although our head office is in Nanaimo, travelling to various job sites within Vancouver Island is required.As an Estimator/Project Manager you would:

  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction supervision to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues if they arise
  • Analyze blueprints, construction drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors
  • Confer with engineers, designers, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates12
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project with assistance from account department
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to construct or sub-contract components
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
  • Establish and maintain tendering process, and conduct negotiations
To be successful in this role, you will be a highly motivated self-starter and have the following qualifications:
  • 2 or more years of Civil Construction experience
  • 1 or more years of Estimating experience
  • Ability to create/implement new processes
  • Certification in project management considered an asset
  • Knowledge of BC and Canadian Construction Regulations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office to assist with bidding and administration of projects
  • Experience with construction administration and bidding and tendering projects
  • The ability to relate and discuss issues with a range of professionals from trades people to senior management.
  • Logical approach to problem solving, persuasive powers, ability to motivate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time & Project Management skills
