They will have sound interpersonal and communication skills and have a strong sense of empathy.We have a New Program Opening Soon for youth who are supported by the Ministry of Children and Family Development in the Nanaimo area.A Live-In Home Support Worker is responsible for assisting youth with diverse-abilities lead a full and integrated life within their community. Live-In Home Support Workers are required to live at the worksite for a prescribed duration of time. Live-In Home Support Workers are paid on a per-day basis. A Live-In Home Support Worker in this setting is responsible for ensuring the physical, emotional, social, recreational, economic, educational, and/or medical needs of all residents are met. Tasks may include: life skills training, meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care, budget management, and following/implementing personal care plans. Most importantly, a Live-In Home Support Worker assists our residents by enhancing their quality of life through activities of daily living.The Live-In Support Worker will work within a larger interdisciplinary team to provide a program which will include recreation, life skills, social opportunities, regulation skills, may include some personal care and other opportunities that are set out by the team.If you feel you have the qualifications, skill set and desire to make a difference in a youth's life, we look forward to hearing from you. The youth may present any of the following; aggressive language, aggressive behaviour, possibility of elopement, attachment disorder, could have had some type of trauma in their lives which manifests as behaviours to name a few. If you have worked with vulnerable youth and/or adults, hold a CYC, CSW, ECE with a special needs certificate, or relevant certificates, diplomas or degrees OR are passionate about supporting youth and wish to make a difference, we would like to meet you.The Live-In Support Worker reports directly to the Residential Manger. These are the responsibilities and duties that will be required:Working 1-1 with youth in a residential settingExploring the community at large with the youth and accessing avenues for the youth to find community safelyProviding a recreational based program that allows the youth to explore safelyCommunicating with the team through documentation, meetings and log booksPromote health and safety at all timesHave patience and understanding of the youth and the situationSupporting the youth in accessing family in another communityThe qualified applicant will be able to provide the following:Must be 19 years of ageValid BC Class 5 Drivers LicenseMinistry of Child and Family Development ScreeningDrivers AbstractRCMP Criminal Record Check3 ReferencesCurrent Ministry of Health Approved First Aid Certificate including CPRPhysician's DeclarationTB ScreenFood Safe CertificateEducation and/or experience working with youth at risk, children with developmental disabilities or children with challenging behaviours (SW, CYC,CSW, ECE- special needs)Work independentlyBe able to work in a sometimes stressful environmentExcellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
