Job Description

The ProgramMain’s Program is designed to accommodate youth that have experienced a history of failure in other programs and group homes in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Our services support youth recovering from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and overcoming other adversity by providing them with housing and trauma-based guidance.We accommodate and support traumatized youth in comfortable and welcoming facilities with twenty four hour staffing. Paired housemates share common areas but each child has his or her own bedroom. We offer a safe environment in a residential and friendly neighbourhood. An open door policy encourages a wandering youth to return at any time.The PositionThe Casual Residence Worker including Overnight Awake scheduling (CRW) is part of a dynamic care-giver team and is responsible for assisting our person served (PS) to live successfully in residential settings in an accredited agency. Ensures physical, emotional, social, educational and medical needs are met. The CRW assist PS to enhance quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. Provides behavioural support and supervision in the program and community, implements and monitors individual program plans through observation and accurate reporting, and participates in operating and maintain the program. These positions require union membership with BCGEU.Scheduling:This position will work a variety of shifts that include weekdays, weekends and evening shifts that could include, but not limited to, scheduling of 0700-1500, 1500-2300, and 2300-0700.In Your Role You Will

  • With the team, participate in assessing and planning for individuals in program; documents, implements and contributes to program evaluation.
  • Provide life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance; implements personal service plans.
  • Assist PS with activities of daily living such as hygiene, grooming and toileting.
  • Participate in various PS-focused activities in accordance with care plans.
  • Recognize, analyze, and deal with potential emergency situations such as PS aggressive behaviour according to PS Behaviour Safety Plan to ensure no harm comes to the PS and/or the public.
  • Administer medication to PS in accordance with established policy, protocols, and procedures.
  • Assist with case management by identifying potential problems and reporting any difficulties.
  • Provide emotional support and feedback to PS and their families.
  • Transport and assist PS to attend appointments, shopping or leisure activities; operates motor vehicles safely and legally while transporting PS or on WJS business.
  • Perform residential maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry, sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment and food services.
  • Maintain reports such as statistics, logs and daily activities relating to PS.
  • Utilize practices that promote health, welfare, safety and security of persons served.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as required.

  • A diploma or degree in one of the humanities, social work or related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years recent related experience in child and youth care, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Previous experience with operating a licensed home and trauma informed practice
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract with a reliable, safe vehicle that has appropriate insurance
Other requirements:
  • Valid CPR/First Aid, WHMIS, and Food Hygiene and Sanitation certificates (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention Certificate and/or MANDT and Conflict Resolution Certificate (or ability to obtain within probation period)
  • Physician’s note confirming suitability, including immunization records and a negative tuberculosis screening test
  • Positive behavior supports experience
