Culturally appropriate mental health supports to address the mental health of Urban Indigenous people with main emphasis on Indigenous youth.To be successful in this role you need to display strong leadership and traditional knowledge background to respond to youth with moderate to very severe mental health.Reaching Home Youth Support Worker Responsibilities:

  • Providing culturally appropriate outreach support services
  • Knowledge of cultural protocols/traditional practices
  • Ability to work as a team member as well as to be self-directed in carrying out daily duties
  • Focus on specific mental health and/or related issues defined by the person
  • Provide short term direct intervention
  • Increase critical needs and decrease barrier services
  • Having regular meetings with multidisciplinary team
  • Ensuring compliance, accuracy, and quality of documentation
  • Collect data as per contract agreement and reporting requirements/measurement of success using reporting tools provided
  • Provide a therapeutic approach to mentorship, mental health supports and system navigation
  • Engagement with youth that promotes empowerment through connection to culture
  • Address at risk and homelessness experienced by Indigenous youth
Reaching Home Youth Support Worker Requirements:
  • A good understanding of Indigenous issues how they relate to mental wellness
  • An Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in a social science field is required
  • Completion of mental health counselling training is preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license and willing to submit drivers abstract
  • Knowledge of child/adolescent and adult development psychological/social/cognitive development
  • Knowledge of applicable principals of trauma informed and culturally safe practice
  • Strong people skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation related to mental health and child/family services; ability to interpret and explain pertinent mental health-related policies and procedures to clients
