This vision informs our day-to-day operations and provides a philosophy that revolves around person-focused supports, strength-based approaches, and community-oriented learning opportunities.Autism Nova Scotia delivers programming in Halifax and in nine communities across Nova Scotia through our Regional Autism Centers. Our three program divisions are: Social & Community Inclusion; Employment Support; and Family and Caregiver Support.AUTISM SUPPORT COORDINATORTerm: Full Time (40 hours per week) Evenings and weekends may be required. Start Date: May 2022Position location: New Glasgow, NS (Autism Nova Scotia Pictou Chapter)Salary: TBDApplication deadline: New Glasgow, NS (Autism Nova Scotia Pictou Chapter)Competition #2022-045What you’ll be doing…Under the supervision of the Provincial Chapter Coordinator, and in collaboration with the Pictou County Chapter of Autism Nova Scotia, the Autism Support Coordinator will direct and oversee the planning, development and implementation of the Potential Program in the Pictou County Chapter and region of the province.This program is evidence-based and builds on a few critical areas of support and advocacy that Autism Nova Scotia and its Chapters are already supporting including the delivery of:· Education sessions and workshops· One-on-one family support· Community events· Recreational, life skills and social learning opportunities· Training and capacity buildingWhat we’re looking for…A passionate, team player who takes personal accountability to deliver on what is expected in their role and who strives for excellence every day.   • Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field or equivalent experience accepted
  • A valid, clear criminal record check and child abuse registry search is required
  • Up to date First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset
Minimum experience:
  • Knowledge of the overall goals and intent of Autism Nova Scotia and its Chapters (including organizational structure, policies, guidelines, programs and project activities)
  • Knowledge of program planning, community development, grant writing and project management
  • Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and the diversity of needs throughout the lifespan
  • Knowledge of excel spreadsheets, survey tools and registration software programs
  • Knowledge of volunteer management to recruit, direct, guide, and motivate volunteers
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Applications, including but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook
Minimum skills and ability:
  • Organizational, Administrative and Time Management Skills: to plan, organize and coordinate program activities; to address constant and varied demands on the position.
  • Leadership and Volunteer Management Skills: to recruit, orient, support and share knowledge with volunteers related to programs.
  • Data Analytical Skills: to collect, manage and report on data and metrics related to the program.
  • Interpersonal and Communications Skills: to represent the organization/ program activities to a broad range of partners in the surrounding community in which the program is being delivered. To liaise with the Pictou Chapter Board members.
  • Computer Skills & Technology: to prepare various documents, spreadsheets and reports; to access information, to develop promotional posters using Canva, to communicate via social media.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Applications, including but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Direct and oversee the organization, implementation, and evaluation of identified programs, family events and educations sessions related to the Potential Program in the related region of the province.
This includes but is not limited to:
  • Managing and booking of facilities
  • Registration, applications, and scheduling
  • Advertisement of related programs, events and/or education sessions
  • Follow up surveys, evaluations and needs assessments
  • Tracking and management of data, including qualitative and quantitative feedback from participants (i.e. quotes, stories and photos)
  • Volunteer and summer camp staff recruitment and management
  • Work in partnership with other Chapters, staff and volunteers to ensure seamless implementation of the Potential Program with existing programs and to expand services.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with direct supervisor, Chapter Program board, other ANS staff/departments, volunteers, and community stakeholders.
  • Build upon and foster community partnerships and connections as they relate to the Potential Program and organizational programs and services.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Community Outreach: Knowledge and understanding of the local supports, programs and services offered in the community.
  • Acceptance & Awareness: As a part of the core team, the Autism Support Coordinator will seek opportunities to create awareness, build acceptance/understanding and foster relationship building in the larger community.
  • Education & Training: As a part of the team, the Autism Support Coordinator will develop and coordinate educational materials as needed for internal and external usage.
  • Linkages: As part of the Regional Autism Centre team, the Autism Support Coordinator will build linkages with key stakeholders in the larger community to work towards a seamless continuum of service delivery.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of autism, community development, family support, person-directed approaches and social thinking models are assets in the role.
Essential and Other Related Job Duties:
  • A valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle is required
Physical Effort Requirements: The position requires fine motor skills to operate computer equipment.Working Conditions: The position works in a standard office environment and does require community travel within the region the position is located for event and/or program delivery.As a Proof of Vaccination organization, all Autism Nova Scotia staff are required to be fully vaccinated. Those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical, religious, or cultural reasons must wear a mask at all times, practice social distancing, and sanitize their hands upon entry while inside Autism Nova Scotia offices or community program spaces.
