In joining the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth you will become part of a dedicated network of individuals with great passion for providing a holistic support to the communities in which we serve.The OpportunityThe unique needs of newcomer child and youth settlement are an important area of focus and priority for the YMCA. To ensure we are able to meet our commitment to supporting these needs we are looking for an individual who can deliver robust child and youth programming as well as on-site School Settlement Support.Responsibilities include

  • Provide individual and group settlement and integration support to newcomer child and youth
  • Engage schools through awareness raising, meetings and building connections
Qualifications and Skills
  • An understanding of, and experience with, cross-cultural matters and how they relate to settlement and integration for newcomers to Canada
  • Experience working with newcomer children, youth, and families.
  • Demonstrated networking, rapport building and communication skills
  • Understanding of, and experience with, the Nova Scotia School System is an asset.
  • The ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Experience developing and delivering group activities and information sessions
  • The ability to demonstrate positive and effective interpersonal skills
  • Microsoft Office Skills (i.e. Excel, Word, Publisher, etc.) and various social media platforms
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines and tasks
  • Demonstrated discretion and sound judgement in the handling of confidential information
  • High level of initiative is needed to work independently and respond to unanticipated items
  • Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed
  • Valid NS Drivers License and reliable vehicle essential
