Please submit cover letter and resume to:Ms. Janice L JordenEmployee Relations Specialist739 East River RoadNew Glasgow, Nova ScotiaB2H 5E9Job Title: Continuing Care AssistantsStatus and FTE: Full Time and Part Time Casual PositionsLocation: New Glasgow, NSDepartment: Quality & Resident CareHours of Work: 12 Hour ShiftsEmployment Agreement: Union positionCompensation: As per CUPE ContractGlen Haven Manor a 200 bed long term care facility, is seeking qualified Continuing Care Assistants (CCA), to join our Nursing team in the delivery of quality care to residents.Responsibilities:The Continuing Care Assistant (CCA), under the direction of the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, assumes responsibility for the provision of personal care for residents based on their individual care plans. The CCA is also responsible for participating in recreational activities and cross training to assist in enriched housing as needed in order to fulfill the required responsibilities. The CCA exhibits sound judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of Glen Haven Manor.The CCA is responsible to ensure residents are provided care in a clean and safe environment while allowing residents to exercise their greatest degree of independence.The incumbent is required to maintain a high skill level through participation in training and continued competencies as outlined by the Glen Haven Manor and CUPEThis position may require shift work.The successful candidate must be willing to take further training as deemed necessary to fulfill the job requirements.Qualifications:

• Graduate from an approved school or Training Center for CCA education, preference will be given to persons with Alzheimers Training and Palliative Care Training.
• Eligible for Registration with Nova Scotia Continuing Care Assistant Registry
• Current Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Record Check

Core Competencies:

• The Continuing Care Assistant requires excellent assessment skills and the ability to interact professionally with patients/residents, families, other health care providers and staff with a pleasant and cooperative attitude, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth.
• The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to work in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams within their assigned areas, as well the ability to adapt and understand patients/residents needs, assisting them in meeting their fullest physical and emotional potential.
• The successful candidate will demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities to perform the duties of the position such as moving and mobilizing patients; varying workloads, exposure; dealing with stressful situations relating to agitated, confused, aggressive, or hostile behavior of patients/residents.
• The successful candidate will demonstrate regular attendance in current and previous employment.
• The ability to make critical decisions in a timely fashion is essential.
• The incumbent requires organizational skills and the ability to prioritize their own work.
