The Town of New Glasgow is seeking to fill a permanent full-time vacancy within the Information Technology Department for the position of Desktop Support Technician. This position provides regional technical support to all Town of New Glasgow departments and other Municipal IT service user groups.Salary will be based on credentials, proven knowledge, education and experience. The successful applicant will be required to undertake criminal record and background checks and finger printing. This position is subject to a 6-month probationary period. Regular hours are Monday to Friday 8:30AM to 4:30PM, overtime and afterhours support may be required from time to time.ResponsibilitiesTo provide level 1 technical support to all regional IT service clients and Town of New Glasgow users on an as needed basis servicing all user level-hardware, software, peripherals and mobile communications devicesAssist staff with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of end-user computing devices and related software including cloud-based applications such as the Microsoft Office 365 platform and suite of softwareTrain and give basic technical orientation to users on the use of standard hardware devices such as desktop/laptop computers, mobile computing devices and mobile communications handhelds as well as standard business software applicationsWork closely with users to ensure all client computing & mobile devices are operating and functioning properly and proper performance levels are achievedQualificationsMinimum of two years experience in the Information Technology industryProven work experience supporting a Windows based client/server networkPost-secondary education with a focus on information technology systems or demonstrated related work experienceA+ certificate or other technology related certifications will be considered an assetPrevious Municipal Government experience would also be considered an assetMust have a valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle for local travel around Pictou CountyWork With UsApplicants are invited to submit their resume with cover letter in confidence to the undersigned no later than 4PM on Monday September 27th, 2021.Personal information collected through the recruitment process will be used solely to determine eligibility for employment and handled in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Nova Scotia.The Town of New Glasgow is an equal opportunity employer.
