Department: JusticeLocation: NEW WATERFORDType of Employment: CasualUnion Status: Exclusion - Non Union - NSPGClosing Date: 9/16/2022 (Applications are accepted until 11:59 PM Atlantic Time)About UsThe Maintenance Enforcement and Victim Services Division of the Department of Justice is responsible for providing support to victims of crime, including their families and children, including assistance with benefits owed to them through a maintenance support order and ensuring that there is improved access to these critical programs for vulnerable groups who need them.The Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) is a free service of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice that helps you make or receive court-ordered maintenance payments when your court order is enrolled with the program and can take steps to enforce maintenance orders when payments are not made. The MEP operates under the laws set out in the Maintenance Enforcement Act. Benefits of enrolling in the MEP include: we keep an accurate record of all payments made and received; we protect your personal information; we act as a buffer between payors and recipients; we work with the MEPs in other provinces if the payor or recipient live outside Nova Scotia; and we can take enforcement action if payments are not made. No one other than MEP can enforce an order to pay maintenance.About Our OpportunityReporting to the Coordinator, the Enrollment Clerk is responsible for the registration of maintenance orders and separation agreements. The Clerk establishes payment schedules for each case utilizing information from Court orders, and updates and maintains the Maintenance Enforcement Program database in accordance with legislation, policy, and procedures. The incumbent is required to extrapolate information from source documents, and ensure the integrity of information contained in the database. The Clerk acts as a referral source to the Program client group, responds to general enquiries, provides assistance as needed, and processes correspondence.Qualifications and ExperienceTo be considered for this opportunity, you have four years related experience (in an office environment with alphanumeric data entry); or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable. Experience and competency in an automated environment are required.You can calculate various types of payment schedules, prioritize, and manage a demanding and diverse workload, meet deadlines, and work under pressure. Experience in the interpretation of Court orders and knowledge of legal documents, forms, procedures, and terminology would be an asset.
