Job Description

Kinsight is an accredited non-profit organization. We work alongside families of children, youth and adults with developmental delays or disabilities to support growth, development and personal well-being. We work with hundreds of community members and professionals to welcome and include all people, and foster vibrant and healthy communities. We serve the communities of New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra. Our mission is to provide options and opportunities for people to have meaningful relationships and fulfilling lives.Kinsight has been supporting people with developmental disabilities for over sixty years! That’s a long time. We’ve learned a lot over those years, and that learning has shaped the way our services have transformed to meet people’s needs during this challenging time. The pandemic has served to re-affirm our commitment to providing safe, dynamic and meaningful service experiences. The pandemic has forced us to move from offering services that meet ‘current best practices’ to designing and delivering services that are and will become ‘next best practices’. While we have always challenged ourselves to be better and do better for those we serve, this pandemic has required a full scale rejection of the status quo in our Community Inclusion Day Services and the design and delivery of a brand new Pandemic Service Response. The Participants, their Families and Caregivers have played an active role in designing our Pandemic Service Response. Our staff team has done a stellar job in responding to the needs of Participants in all new ways. And now we are looking for more dedicated and enthusiastic staff to join the team. We’re looking for people who can focus perfectly on at least two targets at the same time. First we want people who can keep the health and safety of themselves, their team mates and the Participants top of mind and top of action. Secondly, we want people who can plan with and offer Participants meaningful dynamic service experiences. And of course we’ll be looking for all the other things too like ‘team player’, ‘able to work independently’, ‘strong communicator’, ‘fairly tech savvy’, ‘valid driver’s license’!We know that starting a new job during the pandemic won’t be easy… but it will be worth it! If you are someone who knows a lot about community living and community inclusion day services – that’s good. If you are someone who knows a lot about these things but is eager to embrace this pandemic as a chance to push the boundaries of ‘best practice to next practice’ – that’s even better!POSITION SUMMARY: Under the guidance and support of the Community Inclusion Supervisor and as part of the Community Inclusion team, the Community Support Worker will be responsible for providing assistance and support to people with developmental and physical disabilities.
