Work ArrangementsThis temporary, part-time (various hours) position is available for the period of September 1, 2022 to August 13, 2023 with breaks in the posting between semesters. The position is located at the New Westminster campus and at the Coquitlam campus.Hours of work are as per the lab schedules set each semester. The number of hours per semester differ based on course offerings and demand. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department’s need. Facilitate student engagement in conversational activities:a. Review lab lesson plans prepared by language course instructor(s)b. Familiarize themselves with the learning activities and instructions outlined in the lab lesson plansc. Prepare learning resources to match the learning activities designed in the lab lessonsd. Lead learning activities designed in the lab lesson planse. Initiate and direct conversation, encouraging student oral participation and ensuring instructor’s materials are coveredf. Answer student questions directly related to conversation activities (i.e., clarifying instructions, pronunciation, vocabulary meaning).g. Refers student questions about grammar and linguistic functions to instructor(s).h. Correct errors in pronunciation, grammar, etc., according to instructor’s materials and/or refers students to appropriate study reference2. Manage learning resources and materials produced for conversation lab classes:a. Update learning resources (i.e., image banks, magazine materials, etc.)b. File and organize learning resources available for conversation lab classesc. Keep current records of learning resources archives3. Collaborate with language instructor(s) for assessment of student performance in conversation lab classes:a. Record student attendance and punctualityb. Provide feedback on student participation, engagement with and comprehension of learning activities in lab classesc. Note issues with learning activities in the lab classes (i.e., time, level of difficulty, etc.)d. Provide ideas and/or new materials for inclusion in future conversation lab lessonse. Liaise with language instructor(s) regularly to discuss lesson plans and student performance in conversation lab4. Perform other related dutiesTo Be Successful in this Role You Will Need1.
